Basically, Crist and his Republican cronies hate education, and are doing everything in their power to provide a subpar learning environment for your children.

When the taxpayers are paying $21,890 per student per year in Orange Count Public Schools it is long past time for vouchers. With gas at $4.00 a gallon and food prices rising we the taxpayers cannot afford to spend that kin of money educating these kids in substandard schools where crime, violence, drugs and political correctness run amuck.

Time for a change. Charlie Crist is doing the taxpayers of Florida a favor by getting this on the ballot. Thank you Charlie.

As for the sales tax replacing property taxes as a funding source for schools that’s a no brainer. Spreading the burden to business, tourist, illegal immigrants, drug dealers, prostitutes and others who currently don’t pay a dime towards our schools is good for the decent people of the state of Florida.

This amendment should pass easily and be accepted by those who understand it.

This is good change. As opposed to raising taxes and more special interest like Obama wants.

As for the third amendment it says I think that schools need to spend a minimum percent of their budgets towards schools. Seems ridiculous but considering all the special interest feathering their nest off the backs of the taxpayers it’s probably needed.

Charlie just thinks $22,000 per kid is a little steep to educate kids to the 8th grade level and have a drop out rate of 50%.

Good for Governor Crist.
Those parents who pay twice, once for your kids, once for their own to go to a private school, are being robbed and always have been.
By allowing vouchers Crist shows he APPRECIATES and loves education.
The level of mismanagement in the public schools system is becoming clearer each and every day. They do not offer an education, they offer a cattle roundup of children, to hold them there, have them pass (or not) the FCATS, and then send them on their way.
This way parents with a low to medium income can make their OWN decision where their children go.
More power to them.

The teachers union is the most reactionary force in education. Breaking news, it's a "TEACHERS UNION" they're only using the students as enablers for their agenda. What they cannot abide is another choice that will show what lousey "PERFORMANCE" results they produce.

I heard it was something like $7600 per child, however you are correct the teachers sure like to struggle at the lowest levels of mediocrity when it comes to teaching!

I went to a private school and got a great education for less than the average per child is now at a public school. Im glad I did, we didnt have violence, very few drugs, and great kids to go to school with!

Teachers, firemen, and police, the new holy trinity, dont criticize any of them at the risk of being called a malcontent!

All of those people are already paying for schools. Except businesses. Businesses don't pay taxes.

Have a link that shows it's $21,000 per kid?

This is a complex issue, particularly when you start thinking about which schools will get taxpayer dollars for education. I would support tax dollars going to a Catholic school, or school run by a significant protestant denomination - even a jewish academy....NOT a wiccan school, muslim school or atheist school. Some states avoid this & go the charter school route so they can still get away from the forced public school enrollment.

IF YOU SEND IT, WE WILL SEND IT...that seems to be the policy of public schools!!

Year after year, more and more money is spend on schools that do worse and worse...with the same "give us more money and we can do better." Problem is, they never do.

We have a teachers union interested only in the teachers, not the students. We have administrators who believe in the status quo and refuse to look at new ideas and ways of educating.

We have teachers fighting merit programs and vouchers to protect their jobs, not to improve education.

Sorry, I'm sick and tired of giving more and more, year after year.

Thank you Govenor Crist!!!!!!

Why the hell does the NEA/FEA HATE children so much?! They want to imprison kids in schools that suck. I know they look out for the teachers as their first priority. I don't expect much from them as they are at the same intellectual level as most of these moronic teachers. All of this BS just gets added to the list of why my child will NOT be attending government schools when she turns 5.

Why are public school teachers so afraid of competition?????

Because the public will find out the private sector can do a better job for less $$$$$$!!!!

What you meant was, if they want to do that, go right ahead, just pay for my kid too with your tax dollars, and NO, you cannot have any of that back.
Correct?
A choice only if they can afford it?

But see that is the beauty of a free country. You do not have to send your child to those schools, but a parent should NOT have to be forced to send theirs to a public school because they cannot afford a private school.

And as to the question about how much does it cost to educate a child in a public schools, here is some info on the averages:

"In fact, Education Department figures show that the average private elementary school tuition in America is less than $2,500. The average tuition for all private schools, elementary and secondary, is $3,116, or less than half of the cost per pupil in the average public school,$6,857. A survey of private schools in Indianapolis, Jersey City, San Francisco, and Atlanta shows that there are many options available to families with $3,000 to spend on a child's education. Even more options would no doubt appear if all parents were armed with $3,000 vouchers." - http://www.cato.org/pubs/briefs/bp-025.html

In an article in the Washington Post, that number for public schools is inflated 3 fold because of other funding sources taken into account, not just tax dollars.

It is less expensive to give a child a private school education than it is a public school education. The difference is, the government pays for one so it is FREE, the other must be out of pocket expenses.

Just give parents what the state pays per child and let the parent decide...public or private!!!!!

Course, the union knows where the kids will all go...they must protect their corrupt union at all costs...even the kids!!!
