I'm glad the officer is alright. I do question his driving at 100 mph on a 2 lane road, at night. I understand he was enroute to an emergency, but 100 mph? And he teaches defensive driving? Seems a little excessive to me. I hope the emergency was covered since he was unable to get there.

Officer Hernandez is one lucky dude. Many times in these types of accidents the animal ends up inside the car. I know a man, who hit a deer, she went inside the car, was still alive and started kicking both him and his dog. He got out of the car quickly, killed the deer somehow and later had a party with the meat, but others have not been as lucky. The story he told about his dog's reaction to the deer flying over her head was so funny, but I cannot tell it like he did. Darn!

cant think of any emergency that would merit driving 100 MPH....your a danger to others on the highway let alone the wildlife. Maybe you should reconsider your policy for speed when responding to an emergency....most of your state cops drive 80/85 when the speed limit is 75. Sorry i dont have any sympathy for you....driving 100mph on a dark night ....you got what you were asking for.

this is the most practical answer. excess speed at night on a 2 lane road is stupid, regardless of the problem.

I read about the speed comments and thought about that part first also. Then I though, maybe if he was coming for an eemergency I am envolved in, I would like for the police to get there as soon as they could. That highway was part of his area and I am sure he knows where the bumps are, probably. I am very happy that the officer is safe and able to go back to protecting us.

well I have been on these roads and i myself regardless of an emergency would not hit 100mph. It is dnagerous and not only that there are road signs that caution drivers, all drivers that there are elk in this area and it is not just a short area either. Also, what was he the only police officer on patrol. there are other police officers out there.

You are right but it is not only the state police that drive way over the speed limit. It is all police out there. all of it doesn't make sense at all why enforce these rules, etc. if they are not abided by law enforcement what makes them special is it because they carry a badge.

Many years ago when I was in uniform, we were drilled in various driving sessions. Speeds up to 140 MpH. It can get scary. I'm glad this officer lived to tell about it.

Obviously you must live out in the boonies where nothing happens and you never require police aid. have you not been paying attention the the news and commercials where they keep telling us that the state police are down in officers? sometimes the 1 officer is all you will have for that area....
