Full story: Kingsport Times

I would truly feel blessed by God if I were allowed to enjoy a long life and still have enough strength, athleticism and competitiveness to participate in an activity such as cyclocross.

Brand has no dignity, either in chambers or out. Only one visit to his courtroom will illustrate the point. And surely a sitting judge knows what he did was illegal. If not, we need to be very concerned.

No, the public reprimand, aka "slap on the wrist," is the end of the matter. Lawyers and judges look out for their fellow lawyers and judges.

For God sake people, a betting pool? This is pretty harmless to say the least.

I agree this does not warrant dismissal it was poor judgement on his part no doubt about it but I think he realized that which is why he turned himself in. Public officials are or atleast should be held to a higher standard than the average citizen but lets not forget that they are still human.

If this is the worst thing Brand does while sitting as judge then I think he is on good shape considering how corrupt some of our other officials seem to be this is nothing!

watch out for hackers - somebody wants to know what sites you're going to.
Reminder: this is illegal and punishable by law.
Hacker: you dont really want to leave your family to fend for themselves while you're in jail do ya?

I find it hard to believe a "judge" didn't know that an office betting pool was illegal. Give me a break!

Mr. Judge Brand this comment is for you! Let me take you back to Jan. 2000, my (now ex) husband and I were in YOUR court room for his abusive nature to me. You sir more or less ordered a slap on the wrists and domestic counseling. Also, you ordered that I attend and speak about how his abuse towards me made me feel. What a crock that was! This just lead to more abuse. This time it was emotional and verbal..IN FRONT OF THE PUBLIC!!! Your slap on the wrist to him only lead to ANOTHER more physical, more voilent related incident before our divorce hearing!!! So, question is.....On the day you sat and ordered this to happen, did you have an office pool going for how long it would take before he would beat me again? Or the weekend before with just my father-in-law while the 2 of you drank together and had fun? You sir are an alcoholic and a pathetic excuse for a judge.

OMG!! "Abuse Survivor", I too had dealings with the courts about this issue and I hear you loud and clear!! The judges here have NO ethic whatsoever! This includes all of the judges in the 3rd judicial district with the exclusion of Judge Lawson. He remains respectful to everyone within his courtroom and is exemplary! Judge Brand should have recused himself from your case given that he was personal friends with your father-in-law. Sounds as if you have grounds for a lawsuit! I hope everything worked out for you. The courts here do NOT do what they are supposed to do by LAW. My attorney, at the time, did not even allow me to produce PROOF that I had been abused! The attorneys here are shit too! NONE here will stand up for an abused woman. Too many times domestic abuse is let continue by the courts!

Glad to hear from another survivor. I have never been in any kind of trouble with the law previous to this incident. Never had a speeding ticket, let alone a reason to step inside a court room. After this was over I felt alone, ashamed and hung my head low for the longest time. My personal feelings left me in a state of "what did I do wrong" attitude. Myself and my children have turned out just fine. I still have to deal with my ex on our children's issues. That can sometimes be a nightmare. When he starts cursing, starts attitude or turns nasty towards me, I simply hang up or walk away with my head held up strong.
