I'm not a firefighter, but I think they go shoping on their fire engines in case there is an emergency call, as they are understaffed already it is quicker to drop the groceries run and get on the fire engine than drop the groceries drive back to the fire station get on the fire engine and attend the call. I agree it is a waste but it is one we should overlook given the greather benefit.

You are kidding, right? Worried about Firefighters going to the grocery store? Taking pictures of them to show your wife? Do you know anything about being a firefighter? Let's see
1. For less than $50K/year they risk their life and health to respond to your house and tend your self-absorbed butt.
2. They work 24 hour shifts and have to eat three meals at the fire station between calls for smoke odors, fire alarms, and cut fingers.
3. The cost of Diesel approximately $4.50
4. Distance from the fire station to Albertson's 3 1/2 blocks
5. Approximate fuel used? 1/2 Gallon
6. Cost to the tax-payer,$2.25
Now the firefighters could go out for a sitdown meal three times per day, but that would triple the above cost to $6.75; but they choose to pool their money and make one trip to Alberston's to buy food for the entire day.
Why take the fire truck? It takes a minimum number of men to operate a fire truck at the scene of a fire, if one leaves the truck must go out of service, so they will not be able to respond and save your tightwad butt when you call. Therefore, they take the truck on the unbelievable long 3 1/2 block journey to the store.
As taxpayers we could avoid the $2.25 cost by providing three meals per day to the eleven men at the fire station so that the trip would not be necessary. Better yet, volunteers could bring in meals to the firemen each day to show their appreciation.
I certainly hope that we will see your name at the top of that list, then maybe you can spend your time getting to know these brave men and women instead of complaining about them.
And, no, I am not, nor do I wish to be a firefighter

My gripe exactly about both joggers, walkers and bikers - They are oblivious to the fact that they are out in the road, in the middle of the driving lane and won't move over, won't compress in a single file and let cars pass. If you honk your horn, they give you hate filled glances and even raised middle fingers as you pass along with friendly greetings that end in "YOU".

I so appreciate my brother and his wife who are shouldering the bulk of the care duties for my mom, who has Alzheimer's; and the family friend who so generously hosts my son and me when we are visiting Mom in Longwood God Bless your brother! I cared for my parents for many, many years, with little or no help from my family. Always excuses, valid from the ones who lived out of town, but the ones near-by had lame excuses, they worked, well, so do alot of other people with sick elderly parents, and they find time to help caregivers who are exhaused. And when my parents died, guess who got the bulk of the estate? I got the least. My blessings will be when my parents thank me in Heaven, I did it out of love, but will never cease to be hurt that for all the sacrifices I made, my family did not see it fit to compensate me for them, while they compensated themselves for the little they did. I forgave, but the hurt stays with you, forgetting is harder.

When I see them in Publix, they always are listening to their radios, and I think it is because they are ready to run if there is an emergency, of course they have to have the truck right there! Lets get rid of other pork and leave the fire and police people alone. Who the heck needs a new stadium where the average family can't afford to attend games in this economy? Everyone needs fire and police service.

Re: tennants and trashing your property: there are going to be alot of unhappy people out there soon. So many houses are being rented now due to the housing crisis, and I shutter to think what is going on inside. I hope all who rent, reserve the right to periodically check on their propery and have an iron tight legal document drawn up by a lawyer to kick them out if they do not take care of your home! I've had friends who did not and ended up with disastorous results.

[QUOTE self-absorbed butt. tightwad butt [/QUOTE]
Why must you denigrate a person? Not everyone looks at issues the same as you do. your post was very informative and did not need any of the above listed words to be effective. Just because questions are asked and pictures are taken doesn't mean that the person fits your assumptions. People should be able to ask questions and expect resonable answers.

•I'm ticked off at all these bikers and runners doing these runs for the city or municipalities. The police block all the roads, and you can't go anywhere because of the silly people on their bikes or jogging. We tried to go to the dog park. It's a 10-mile drive. We couldn't get in because of roadblocks. They could at least keep one side of the road open. These joggers and marathons mess up people's lives who don't care about it. These are events that last only a couple of hours. You're so selfish that you want to ruin an event with 100's, sometimes thousands of willing participants just so you can walk your dog in park in a public park? Lighten up...

I guess they should not eat while on shift, get real people, you expect so much from them and then yell the loudest about the little stuff. At least they pay for their own food, cook their own and don't expect the taxpayers to do so like others who work for the city, county and state agencies. And yes - I have a family members in the fire/rescue service.

Leave the firefighters alone. Why don't you get a life instead of wasting your time taking pics of them for your precious wife. Hope your house never burns down, 'tard.

Lighten up; life’s too short to be angry at a bunch of people who are enjoying themselves…

I am out of patience with the man in a big Silverado in front of me at the drive-through at the Fairwinds Credit Union in Sanford. While I waited behind him for more than 15 minutes, he was filling out his paperwork, something I had already done before I left home. After the long wait, when I finally got to the window, my business took me three minutes. Do your paperwork before you hit the drive-through. It's just common courtesy"
It's probably because the person inside didnt know what they were doing...every time i go into a branch of that particular financial institution i see all different people working there...

•I'm ticked at the system that a tenant can knock holes in seven doors inside a unit, burn a counter top, break the lease, not clean, and you can't withhold the money. They take you to court, and the state-funded professional mediators can side with the tenant.
Um--news flash--county court mediators are unpaid volunteers.

I've seen them in grocery stores and thought nothing of it (except they have an arrogance to them as though they are better than everyone because of their job). And when they are at the station for 24 hour shifts, they are supplied meals, they do not pay for them themselves unless they want something else. And after a 24 hour shift they get 48 hours off. They don't remain awake for 24 hours during their shift, they can sleep but if there is a call they must get up. I've seen these "brave" people putting out car fires. One guy with a hose, most likely the rookie, and 3 or 4 others standing around. Don't act like they risk their lives every day and every night. They get calls to traffic accidents where all they do is a little clean up. Sure, they work hard when we have brush fires, but house fires in Florida are not a big deal. I "appreciate" that they chose to do this line of work but that doesn't make them any better than anyone else.

But even if you are correct and I am wrong, what exactly is your point? We should be thankful they buy their own food? Don't we all buy our own food? What city, county, state agencies are you referring to that have meals provided???

You are very bitter and have no consideration for the men and women that work in public service. You harbor such resentment toward them, what did they do to you? I believe they have the right to visit the grocery store during their shift and that they should do it in the truck in case of emergency. Should you ever need their help, you will change your tune. In Orange county, they supply their own meals, I know because my Cub Scout group brings them meals every year. You should check your facts instead of coming off as ignorant.

Firefighters and paramedics may not get back to eat their meal within hours. In Orange county, their meals are not provided at the station. They have to purchase their own food to feed themselves. Check your facts before appearing ignorant.

It's against policy for law enforcement to accept anything construed as a 'gift', including meals. One officers just recently got fired for taking coffee. But seriously, I don't want the fire fighters on duty to have to leave the restaurant, or try to get out of a drive-thru line to go BACK to the station and retrieve the vehicle while my house burns to the ground.

To the person sitting in a drive through for 15 minutes. How mutch gas did you waste ? Why not park the car and go inside. Is it too far a walk? I think that they should close every drive through in every bank and fast food joint in the nation and save hundreds of thousands of gallons of gas a week.
