I bought my bull terrier Junior from Puppies n' Things as well, and just like in these two cases my puppy came home with three different parasites. He is fine now but in all I got one free visit from the store and still had to spend about $2000 on veterinary bills. I can't say I was too pleased with Puppies n' Things.

umm..its common knowledge you dont buy puppies from pet stores..they buy from puppy mills and have poorly bred dogs...they are inbred and poorly socialized and kept in hrrod nasty conditions. if you want a pure bred dog, go to the akc website, and they have a list of recommended breeders.

Tomorrow, when it's available conduct a search of occupational licensing, corporate name or fictitious name search, etc. You just may be surprized at who the players are behind the scenes. Pet shops are rarely run by the owners - players, who are the money guys. I a informed that some are actually owned or partnered with local veterinarians, ain't that interesting?

I go in Puppies -N- Things quite often because I am a huge animal lover and dogs are my favorite. Anyway, the last time I went there they had a lab puppy that had nasty green discharge coming from his nose and he was just lying around (not what puppies do)so I told the girl who was maybe 17 years old and knows nothing of veternary care. I kept asking her questions so I could determine if they were puppy mill puppies and it seemed to me that they are prompted to say certain things when certain questions arise. I don't know who to get a hold of to investigate this place all I know is it needs to stop because it's not a life for anyone or anything.

If you ever visited a puppy mill, you would be shocked to say the least. There are numerous dogs crammed in tiny spaces, lots on chicken wire to let the urine and feces fall through. Dirty water, cheap or little food. Disease is rampant, parasites are common, mental problems from no socializtion. They have no idea who bred what, just throw them together. Anyone can falsify papers. I have even seen puppies with hand cropped ears at ten days of age, no anethesia.
One can buy a Champion sired well bred puppy cheaper from a reliable breeder than from a pet shop. My suggestion is to look for a local breeder, individual in the newspaper, check out the place, see the parents, a puppy should not leave the litter before 8 weeks of age at the earliest. One should not buy from a place that has more than 2 breeds, if more than that, you can almost be assured they are in it for money, not the love of a puppy.
I breed Champion sired AKC Miniature Schanuzers, who are healthy, well socialized, beautiful tempermant, and live in our home. One breed only. I bred for quality, not quanity.

Florida Department of Agriculture in Tallahassee. Ask for Diane Fuchs.

Jacksonville Animal Care and Control. Demand to see inspection reports, numbers and types of complaints. If you get no cooperation, don't let them get away with it. Go to the press, write your council rep and the mayor.

Same thing happened to my husband and I. Do not buy dogs from Puppies N Things. Their dogs come from puppy mills. Check out Oprah's website to see what puppy mills are. The dogs are sick and then they do not honor their return policy. The vet, VCA Briarcliff is in cohoots with them. It's a big scam that gives you heartbreak! Our dog was very sick and they will not give us any money back and would not take the dog back. The dog has neurological problems and seizures. Thanks Puppies N Things for ruining our life!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT BUY FROM THIS STORE!!!!!!!! Go to the local pound....you are better off.

Why not just try the local Animal Care and Control First??? They always have pure bred dogs of some sort, and frankly, mixes are usually healthier in the ling run. And you have the added bonus of saving a dog, or cat, for that matter from having to be euthanized. Our Am Staff/Whatever mix is the BEST gaurd dog ever!

Bought a puppy from the puppy scene. The dysplasia did not show up right away. These people guaranteed the health. The person I spoke with-said he looke up some agriculture law that said, we should have given him a notice of ten days after the vet found the problems. none of this was said when we puchased the puppy. My first and last time, that I will purchase from a pet store. Refund promised-but then agriculture law was brought up. This is not about the money but the health of the puppies and all innocent animals.I am in the process of legal action. Ask this question. Where do the pet stores get all these pupppies? What about the bredders. Florida Government. We need to stop puppy mills.
