What do hawk claw marks look like? We've a cat that just came back from the vet with two drains in its back from two pairs of deep (connected) puncture wounds on either side of its lower back. The vet thought the marks were too big to be from a cat fight, and there are plenty of large red-tailed hawks in our area.

can only tell you when i lived up north we lost farm cats all the time to raptors. saw many of our cats with the same wounds you described that were too heavy to be lifted, and saw a raptor take one of the smaller cats, and ppl in the area reported the same issues they had seen witht hese bird types.

we tend to forget these birds hunt - if they can grab a gopher, what should stop them trying to grab a cat? this is one of the reasons my pet cats are indoors, even living in the south now, as we have raptors here too.

yeah will the "experts' will tell you its all your imagination. i love birds - even so - i had a hawk swoop down in front of my truck to grab up a gopher, and i hit it when it began to air lift it off the ground as i couldn't stop in time.

a small cat or dog weighs no more than other small animals such as smaller gophers do. i've seen many raptors lift road kill, including a rabbit.

have to remember its all part of natural food chain. these bird predators are as wild as a coyote or wolf. they are just filling their natural roles. if we don't like it, we need to protect what they see as food (our pets) by making sure they have no access to them.

i'm surprised that the dog care centre wasn't enclosed, as i have seen dogs scale wire fencing like monkeys - our play areas always were on all sides plus the top with fencing - i'm equally surpised the owners inspected this place and decided it was ok even being "subpar" and willingly left a pet there.

Hey Objective, Yes I agree with you on all you have posted. Just last night I was talking to my sister in law about all this. They have a 5 pd dog and she was freaked out by this. I wish more people were aware of this happening. It could save alot more pets maybe. She was saying if she ever saw this happen to her pet she would flip. And it's not like you can go and chase a bird. I was glad to hear about this maybe 8 years ago. I had a puppy also but would let her out on a leash only because I lived in the country and feared this happening to my dog.( she is now 110 pounds) though but I still have a ten pound dog and I am not taking any chances!! This story made me so much more aware of this happening to anyone. Hey have a good weekend!!! Bye now!!!

I have three Hawks taking over my Fenced In Yard.
The large one has tried to grab my Yorkie with me
standing right beside it. I am very afraid for
my animals, they are Family and only go out to "potty".

Its always tragic to lose a beloved pet to a predator, but remember that to a predator pets are not friends they are food pure and simple. With less and less territory to hunt wild predators being opportunist will take unguarded food wherever they can find it. Humans will do this too in the right set of circumstances. All predators including us are what we are and our nature won't change anytime soon.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Cancer

If you have children at home they'll be really playful today and quite a handful at times. Encourage them to burn off all their energy during the day otherwise it will be a case of tears before bedtime. There could also be a fractious atmosphere between you and a loved one, and this will quickly escalate into a row if you aren't careful.
