Do these people have anything better to do with their time?

I'm afraid that on this one, I need to agree with Looking To Escape. America has long since recognized past wrongs or errors. But this matter was over a hundred years ago. No-one is alive today from that era.

No-one is alive today from that era. We apologized to the black people for slavery and to others for atrocities done to their ancestors. Chinese deserve the same respect. You have no idea how much suffering their families went through. Men were not allowed to marry or have children severing an entire family line. They couldn't marry white women and the government wouldn't allow Chinese women in the country. I would gladly apologize.

I never apologized to black people and I won't be apologizing to the Chinese either. . Only the people involved can apologize or accept the apology.

Why is a Japanese guy calling for the apology? I think he's the lawyer representing the Chinese people.

Honda is ethnic Japanese and is a US Congressional Representative from California's 15th district (San Jose and surrounding area). . As of late San Francisco Japanese-Americans have been in a internment camp and apology mood. Some of this must have rubbed off on the Chinese-Americans there. . I guess you look at the past if you are not doing much about the future.

If you do not acknowledge past mistakes they can easily be repeated.
It is a simple thing and lets them know we remember, we are ashamed of ill treatment and we will make sure it does not happen again.

You can express regret about the past, but that is not an apology. . As for it never happening again? Human history suggests it will. As a think piece, how do you imagine life would be if the US electric grid went down? . Much of our current niceness is due to technology, not a change in basic nature.
