For local television viewers who tune into the evening news on Channels 12 and 24, a key component was noticeably absent from Thursday night's broadcast - the faces of longtime anchors and reporters Kelli Saam and Jerry Olenyn. Full Story

KHSL seems to have a history of pulling stunts like this. Didn't they let go of a one Dino Corbin and others over a pay dispute a few years ago?
Some claim that KHSL is not getting sufficient revenue from their adverts, that's hilarious, I don't think anyone out there has noticed a reduction in adds,in fact, about a week ago, my wife was complaining that the 1/2 hour soap opera she watches is interrupted by 15 minutes of advertising.
KHSL is out to replace Kelli and Jerry with two lower paid and incompetent saps. They would have been better off keeping Kelli and Jerry and sending the two dufuses who call themselves weather men to pick up cigarette butts in the parking lot..
Personally, I got little use for channels 12 & 24, I get fresh news feeds on my computer and ACCURATE weather reports on apps on my iPhone and iPad.
Your criticisms show more about your narrow mind than the truth about the company. It's easy to make up excuses why something happened... too bad you don't have to work with them...

I watch 2 programs at once because with tivo & all the commercials it's about equal. It's NOT just a KHSL & KNVN thing. It's all stations.

Why "Shame" good business or any business has no reason for the word Shame as long as No disrespect has been dished...

Shame is an old religious lable that just doesn't apply to any business decision especially when nothing personal has been said or even emplied. Shame = Disrespect Nothing Disrespectful done here.

This is an just ignorant statement made by Cheryl... duh

It is time to admit that Chico has become a backwater town. Employers are leaving, house prices continue to dip and our schools are second rate. Maybe we should consider what we should do different? We should decide that Chico needs to change. Naw, what am I saying? Chico must never change. Even though our sons and daughters can't ever find jobs here and we will only see our grandchildren once or twice a year, Chico must never change. The progressive agenda must be carried out, no matter what the cost.
"the schools are second rate ". There must be something about the name Kelly. Get rid of that moron Staley and keep Saam!

Horrible! I thought they were great and actually made Chico news look professional, UNLIKE the God awful Megan McDonald and Rob Blair! I had to stop watching them in the morning! Megan McDonald looks/acts like th most awkward person when she's on air! And I think we can all agree Rob Blair is just a big idiot, reminds me of the 12 year oldwho thinks he's funny but everyone around him wants to hit him upside the head. Big mistake letting the best news anchor's Chico has to offer!
Couldn't say it better myself. BLAIR IS AN IDIOT and I don't understand how he is still here. He must be paying them to work.
Jerry and Kelli were the most professional anchors the north valley had. It is very sad to see them go.

Well the local news is not worth watching now. I hope everyone in Chico quits watching. That will make a statement straight to their financial officers. Bye Bye Local news. Jerry and Kelli I am very sorry that they treated you with so much disrespect. Karma will come around to bite them in the butt in the near future. Good luck to you both. I am sure that with your professionalism it won't be long before you both get snatched up to do something even better!

I am disappointed that Kelli and Jerry will no longer give us the news... they did it so well. I liked the fact that they were involved in the community (and not just the last few weeks). I believe they embodied respect... they did not attack people because of who they were but made a distinction between people's views and their person. These two channels have a way of making life difficult for their employees -- you do the math.. the turnover rate is quite severe! Maybe the corporation would do well to treat their employees with dignity and respect!

I don't know what it is you are trying to say by "it's all stations" but we lived in South Bay for decades, with the same news anchors , and as far as I know, many of them are still there.

As long time viewers of the local news, we are saddened to see the release of Saam amd Oleyn. We very much enjoyed them as the anchors of our local news. They seemed to be very much intune with the local area and local people. We hope they know that as viewers we feel that they did a great job and that we really apreciated what they did. We will miss them!

I have watched KHSL & KNVN faithfully for local news since Olenyn & Saam became news anchors. I am very disturbed by their departure for whatever reason and I will NOT continue to watch my local news on either of these channels any more. I think there will be many unfavorable repercussions to KHSL & KNVN for this decision to let them go.

Why on earth would anyone assume that Olenyn and Saam have a stranglehold on talent? They were at one time newbies too, don't forget. Everyone starts somewhere, and in the news business, they start in small markets. They move on in 1-2 years if they can.

Olenyn and Saam's talents will take them to bigger markets, probably, which is what should happen. Fresh new faces, awkward at first, will take their places. Some day some of you will likely be publicly wringing your hands and lamenting THEIR leaving. Try to move on and have a good weekend.

Jerry and Kelli need to come up to Channel 7R here in Redding. Channel 7R could certainly use some help with their TV News broadcasts!

The Chico-Redding broadcast area is a small market. Small markets get new on-air talent; they learn their craft and move on to bigger markets (if they have the skills). It's the nature of the beast.
Kelli Saam and Jerry Olenyn have a lot of experience and are quite personable on camera. These skills ought to net them jobs in bigger markets.
Agreed. However, I do remember it being stated that they had choosen to move to a smaller market so that they could raise their children in a smaller, safer community. It is horrible to see this happen to both husband and wife in these times, especially when they weren't here waiting for their big break.

Good luck to you both. You will be missed!

This is the comment that makes the most sense.... Blaming the station when the article really didn't say anything bad is just ignorant.
You are absolutely right. Jerry is an egotistical idiot that thought he was something else. I would never talk to him again. He's a waste of time! OH yeah to be a star in Chico? What's a Chico?
