brad,

You are also comparing apples and oranges. When a store closes in Chico there are still a lot of choices. In Oroville there are either no other choices or a very limited number, hence, we tend to shop in surrounding communities.

what are you all arguing anyway? that Oroville shouldn't have any new businesses?? well anybody (from Oroville or not) would have to be a complete idiot to say that.the common sense is that people will keep trying and some will succeed while others will fail.the unfortunate thing is there are alot of drug addicts and poor people in Oroville..what really needs cleaned up are the neighborhoods like South Side and Downtown.there are a ton of regular people in Oroville that would love to have a nice town.It is too bad that the poor people and the drug addicts are having the babies three times as fast as the regular people (lack of common sense and birth control)therefore overpopulating the town with uneducated people just like their parents who don't think about the consequences, because they know they can live off Welfare until they pop out some more.
I lost track of what I was going for.of course Oroville should have as many businesses as owners are willing to offer and I wish them all my luck..

this quote just shows ignorance, why do people hate when others are just trying to do better for themselves at least someone is trying to succeed in running a business at least they are not dealing drugs or having welfare babies as all of you say.

lol actually stats show 78% of the people that visit the casinos are from Chico and surrounding areas. Also about dentures,,,,If you lived here, thats the way it is, if ur a smart **** you get them knocked out, has nothing to do with meth. Has to do with we orovillians dont stab each other in the back like you chicoans, we take care of the issue up front. Thats why you would never make it here. Also i rear(yes i can read)that Chico had over 40 Major crimes, stabbings, etc. Oroville only claimed 7. High school arrests for meth are 48% more in Chico then Oroville....seems your raising them right? or maybe they will just be back stabbers like yourself? either way i know your going to reply ignorantly, so have at it looser1
Speaking of Stabbers, how about the Oroville man who stabbed his women to death and killed his kids before he blew his brains out in his car. Wow... Or the other local loser who smashed his car killing his Homies, then claims nobody was driving. Quality life in Good old Oroville!

Sounds like "one who knows" doesn't know what they're talking about. I have nothing to do with the resturant, and god forbid anything be done to clean up your town, which I consider to be the armpit of California. Unfortunately, I must pass through there from time to time and I am just amazed at how sad it is that a community surrounded by such beauty, and with such potential, will allow individuals such as yourself along with some local officials block any attempt to bring your town into the 21st century.
Your local government needs a good house cleaning.
and individuals such as yourself should be run out of town.

If it is "my town" then you don't live here so shut your mouth and mind your own business. You are an idiot who is butting into something that has nothing to do with you. Go back to the Bay Area and live out the rest of your pathetic life.

How do you know they are not dealing drugs (Casa Lupe) or having welfare babies (lots of welfare cases work in food establishments part time and still collect their welfare checks)?

"Worth the drive?" For a burger?

Please.

I live near Oroville, and usually do without before driving to Chico or Yuba City.

Drive to Chico for Carl's Jr.? You're outta your freaking mind.

Oroville also got stuck with all the county buildings...welfare office, courthouse, jail etc...the list goes on..therefor Oroville pays the price because that is where tose services are located. Thus attracting all the trash living in Butte County.
Oroville was actually quite proud of being the seat of government for Butte county...100 years ago! I read about it in one of those "news of the past" articles the ER puts out. They were GLOATING over out voting Chico. Who's laughing now!!!!!!

well thats nice - but i would like more of a sit down place.. an olive garden would of been nice.
As to what oroville needs is employees who work and enjoy the job.... i have noticed if they are not happy the clerks are nasty to everyone.
I will not shop in a store where the employees talk to everyone else in line or ignores me or is just plain rude. I have found that people say shop oroville first... well just where? We are so covered for pizza, coffee, copies, gas, fast food, real estate, vets and pharmacy's, and empty stores. I do remember that people said the movie theater on feather river wouldn't make it... that place seems to be doing very well. this day and age it will require a lot of thought of what type of store to open and whom you hire.
I and the general public will return if treated well and feel i am getting a fair deal. word of mouth will close a store in record time. I am glad to see the town growing and expand... also darn well about time hobbies had to put side walks in. if you up-grade your property you must up-grade for ADA. Face it it looks much better. I am grossed out by the parking lots in this town. the shoppers should tell mangers i will not shop in your store until you clean this place up. good for sonic but what a odd choice for a holiday inn. best of luck for them and new employees!
yes miss country smorgy... plain and simple, clean and good.

Those employees that are grumpy are the product of welfare reform. They aren't smart enough to realize they can work the system better by pretending to be working on a 6 year AS degree out at Butt College.

Ahhh, Country Smorgy... now that was an awesome place. We often drive by and wish it hadn't gone away.

I disagree with your comment, most grumpy employees are not necessarily on welfare alot of them are just grumpy I have met alot of rich people that are asses along with poor people, also everyone complains about people being on welfare but you are telling people to WORK the system.

You are incorrect. Kmart closed several hundred stores in 2001. The Kmart in Oroville closed down in a decade before that.
Sorry, I just want to back up my claim, please follow the link below to see an article about KMart from 1994.
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html...

That was when Kmart started BigK too. They decided to turn the ones in Paradise, and Chico into BigK, and then close the Oroville one along with others at the same time. Kmart WAS in trouble back then, and could not keep up with WalMart.
Also, remember the service from Kmart back then? It was bad, especially compared to WalMart.
As per comparing Apples to Oranges, I thought the original premise was companies lost stores in this town, not that we have choices. So my list of some Chico store closures still prove my point that every town experiences store closures.

What do you mean "was" bad? Have you been in the Kmart here in Chico lately? Oh my GOD the servous is bad. The employees look like they are all on burnout and I thought I heard one or two mutter under their breath "you get what you pay for".I'm not picking on the empoloyees. I know they work hard, but they are consistantly understaffed and I think under paid.Kmart deserves to die. Walmart is evil but it is the lesser of two evils. I never see Walmart employees look at sad and worn out as Kmart employees.
