Nice work Chico Fire, you put out a fire you started. What were you guys thinking starting a fire with the forcasted windy conditions. You should be held fiscally responsible for all the money you cost the city while putting out a fire YOU started. Your 25 percent pay raise over the next 6 years would be a start. A normal citizen pays thousands for a controlled fire that becomes out of control. Obviously you guys will not be held to the same high standard.

I dont like to see my money wasted with poor decisions made by these supposed professionals. Look Chico Fire if you are going to make 100,000
dollars a year pay, lets at least ACT like you have some common sense, or it could be time for some PINK SLIPS !!!!!!!!!! |

You people have it all WRONG... The FIRE DEPT Likes to run their FIRES like they RUN THEIR Budget....OUT OF CONTROL....No surprise here...Besides did anyone see those chucks truing to catch that fire in the wind...great entertainment.

Ok, let look at the real problem here. First Chico rarely ever has a fire so the Fire Personnel are not competent in what they do. They train for fires, but training is done in a controlled scenario. The Fire Personnel are better trained at sitting and sleeping at the fire station. They are the most over paid/under worked people working for the City of Chico. The Council recently gave them a five year contract where they get a 5% COLA every year. Along with the 5%, they get $250 a month for retirement healthcare. The $250 goes to $350 a month next year. They even got more vacation time. This equates to over a 35% raise over the next 5 years. Why are we paying these under worked/over paid, under trained individuals so much? The last time the City recruited for a fire fighter position, there were over 500 applications. Supply and demand suggests that they should be paid minimum wage. The City needs to create a new job title for the fire personnel (such as fire/emergency responder). Give the new job title a much lower pay and benefit package, and then eliminate the Fire Fighter positions and let them be rehired (if they want) under the new position. If they don’t, there are 500 others that will take the job at a lower pay!!!

First off. if chico "rarely has fires" then I think you should be praising the Chico FD prevention department instead of slamming them. Are you saying you want more fires? Get real. As far as "sitting and sleeping in the fire house", their stats are readily available that shows the thousands of responses they take in each year. But you would have to get your ?@! off the couch to know that. You sound about as educated as a lab rat. Nice meaningless rant. You also sound like sombody that secretly wished they were a firefighter but could not cut the mustard; same attitude, just the faces change! To all of Chico FD: Dont let these people get you down. There are plenty of people in this city that support you and do not live in glass houses. I guess it will take these people to experience an emergency in thier family to truely appreciate the work you do. Until then I appologize to you for their harsh words. |

Why did you change professions if firefighters have it so good? IF you barely had to work and got way over paid, what profession was so much better that you have now? Please let us know. |

THIS IS GREAT...Right on the money with this one |

It is unfortunate that only escape control burns get the press. The Plumas National Forest fire experts under the leadership of Rick Case invited me to observe a very successful prescribed burn on 20 acres of overgrown mixed conifer forest a couple weeks ago. His team guided me around to view areas that have been managed with fire and the results are excellent. I have created a photographic presentation to illustrate the effectiveness of fire as a tool that I would be happy to share.
