Nurse supporter wrote: <quoted text> What does drug testing nurses and doctors have to do with this story? In cases such as this the employer and the state have every right to require drug testing. It doesnt seem to me that this accident had anything to do with someone being under the influence of a drug. IF YOU'VE EVER WORKED AT TWIN OAKS YOU WOULD NO WHAT NURSES ON DRUGS HAVE TO DO WITH THIS STORY. THEY DON'T DRUG TEST ANYONE BEFORE HIRING THEM TO BE THERE EMPLOYEES. THE PEOPLE IN THE KITCHEN BRING MARIJAUNA TO SMOKE TOGETHER INBETWEEN PREPARING MEALS FOR RESIDENTS. IT'S DISTURBING!!!

This sounds like a mistake that anyone could have made (letting family members of another inmate pull them off of putting someone to bed). The woman in the wheelchair that died sounds like she is better off anyway, seeing that she was in agony and out of her mind and her being restrained constantly due to her trying to slide down out of the chair, must have been "H" on earth. If it were me, I'd rather be dead than live that way. THENK GOD IT WASN'T YOU THEN. SHE SLIPPED OUT OF HER CHAIR BECAUSE SHE HAD A VYNLY CUSHION INSTEAD OF FOAM, U TRY SITTING ON VYNAL WITH YOURE CLOTHES ON WHILE YOU MOVE AROUND IN YOURE WHEELCHAIR AT 98 YEARS OLD.

This might make these folks who own and operate faciltys like this more apt to pay more attention to their patients and their needs?? And who are you to say the patient is better off anyway? How can you speak for how she wished to leave this earth? IT WOULDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING. TWIN OAKS PAGES OVERHEAD AS SOON AS STATE WALKS INTO THE BUILDING. ALL EMPLOYEES RUN AROUND AND MAKE EVERYTHING LOOK AND OPERATE LIKE IT'S SUPPOSED TO BEFORE THEY ENTER WHERE THE RESIDENTS ARE.

Praying for change wrote: I've seen it so many times that the CNA's get tired of pulling up the resident so they do just put them in the room and shut the door and forget about them. They're also treated too ruff and neglected even in the so called "nice" homes. The investigation never goes far enough and/or administration covers it up. I've seen it and reported with a journal and they still got away with it. It's not fair what these elders have to go through because of what the CNA's get away with or more so what the administration covers up. I hope I'm expressing this polite enough but I can still see these residents that I was unable to save. THE ONLY REASON THIS CAME INTO THE PUBLIC IS BECAUSE THE CNA'S TOLD THE TRUTH.BELIEVE ME TWIN OAKS WOULD HAVE COVERED IT UP IF THE CNA'S WHO WERE WORKING THAT NIGHT WOULD HAVE KEPT THERE MOUTHS SHUT.IT'S THE NURSES AND ADMINISTRATION THAT WILL COVER ALL THINGS UP. I DON'T NO HOW THEY SLEEP AT NIGHT, I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO LIVE WITH MYSELF.

CNA that cares wrote: I used to work at Twin Oaks. It was horrible!!!! ABUSE would happen everyday. The poor residents of that facility are treated worse than dirt. This doesn't surprise me at all. How many more people must die before this place gets closed for good? THATS TRUE!! THERE FAMILIES PAY LOTS OF MONEY AND THINK THEY ARE GETTING BETTER CARE AT TWIN OAKS THEN THEY WOULD TAKING CARE OF THEM THERESELFS.WHEN IN REALITY CNAS BARILY HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO GET THEM IN AND OUT OF THERE BEDS FOR MEALS WITH ALL THE RESIDENT THEY HAVE TO CARE FOR.

NapaCynSonoma you are an amazing person. Thank God someone out there understands what we are going through. I hope you are happy in your current position and that this is all a bad dream now. As for me I stopped CNA work when my back went out for good. Im pretty much a cripple. Unfortunatly...my daughter has just become a CNA. I see the end from the beginning

Yes you are so amazing napablalblabla... Defend the CNA"S...... BUT... have the limited backbone to address the problems in the slums of the institutions that you have worked in. Do I feel for you and other CNA's? yes and no. You have a responsibility to report the crappy homes and report the misgivings of these "institutions" Thank God some of us were there to call out the neglect to the humans who reside in them. I know you work hard for your money, but these people are not animals left to die in the pound. Thats Why I was present EVERY minute my mother was in their care. Bad Dream? WHAT?

Onenation, Thank you. You made my day. I couldn't be happier. I love my CNAs. They are the heart and soul of the nursing home. It is very basic...as Dale Carnegie said that if you take care of your employees, they will take care of you. I don't allow anyone, including doctors or abusive family members to harass my staff.
As for you, Sawblade, I actually instigated the permanent closing of a local facility. I had just moved, I was purchasing a home which was in the middle of escrow when I called DHS, local ombudsman, and the local newspaper. I then resigned from this entirely corrupt company. I risked my home and future employment in a town where I was now the "whistleblower". I take my calling very seriously. Thank God my current "not-for-profit" company understood my loyalty to the residents. I do work for a company with integrity. I am extremely loyal to my company, but I am more loyal to my residents. My own grandpa died under neglectful circumstances in a facility in Lancaster. This population made America what it is today. They deserve the very best of care.

sawblade, you are attacking the two people who you most likely would have gladly entrusted the care of your mom to. Im sorry you had such a bad experience. Anything more I say to you is just going to be twisted around. Your an angry woman. You bring that with you into the conversation and I am willing to bet you brought that attitude into the facility taking care of your mom. No excuses for the facility. They are what they are.But the way you attack the CNAs. It's like you hate them.I think your the one with a problem.

Well onenation, Let me inform you that I am not a women. I observed some of the worst care of patients at a Paradise home. This was three years ago to my mothers demise to cancer. The Rn's did not give a Ratts Butt at this facilty. If it were not for the fact that my sister father brother in law and other loving family members were there to see the abuse, then we would not be talking. Thank GOD we were able to remove her from this craphole and move her to a caring facilty in Oroville. I dont hold all Cna's to the same degree as I hold this group in Paradise. This has opened my eyes to the abuse that others now suffer. If you think that I will apoligize.. you are off your rocker. I never harrased anyone, I only asked for the same care you would want for a loved one. It was sick to see the Rn's overmedicate her. Even more Sick to know they were taking her drugs to get high and abuse her! Was it worth the fight in the end to prove what I am saying? Hell no! It was a comfort to see HOSPISCE take over and let her die a respecttful death! GET OUT OF MY FACE!

Sawblade, You obviously have nothing better to do with your life than sit and angrily respond to most articles written. Yes, I have dealt with family like you. Most reasons why people like you attack is because you were not a good child and you neglected your parents before they went into the nursing home. You then act out of guilt and try to overcompensate and "make up" to Mom for your inadaquacies as an adult child.
Again, I validate your concerns but staff cannot do anything exept with a physician's order, so your claim of nurses overmedicating your mom are invalid. You would need to contact the physician in charge of your mom's care. Nurses do not write order; they merely follow doctor's instructions.
Your perception of CNAs not caring is also invalid. When a CNA is in charge of 13 to 16 residents, it may appear that they don't care. Again, this goes back to administration and the mother company understaffing. I had privy to written instructions from one of the largest providers in California. The corporate administrator indicated that "16 residents per CNA was perfectly acceptable on the pm shift". The CNAs literally run all shift attempting to care for resident because they care; however they go home exhausted each day because they are not given the support and tools needed from the "mother company" do do their jobs. Onenation is right. You are a very angry and obviously depressed person. Perhaps you should ask your doctor for some Prozac and some psychotherapy. Pick up a copy of "The Secret" and read it cover to cover. Volunteer. Become and adopted grandparent. Become an Ombudsman. Do something positive.

we have also noticed (as aides) that the most controling mothers, had the most nerve wracking family members demanding everything all at once for mom.I had 26 to 60 residents a night (depending on how many showed up for work). If you are demanding 20 minutes of time for mom, your taking away from other residents who have to wait that much longer for care, so to be fair to all my charges, I had a limited amount of time to tend to each one, and I did the best I could with the amount of time I had. If the facility had any kind of heart, I would have had less residents to spend more time on, but thats not how it works in "for profit" facilities. You just made it that much worse by being a jerk to everyone around you. You bring on yourself. Go take your mommas inheritance and spend it on a shrink. Your a mean person.

Whatever, I cleaned her and fed her more than the CNA's at this craphole. There were a few CNA's who appreciated our familys help. The others were too busy sneaking outside to have another smoke. I never demanded 20 minutes from anyone. All I asked for was some help to put her back on the bed after she fell onto the floor. It was hard seeing them tie her down and leaving her to pull on her binds until she bruised. You remind me of the very evil that still exists in the care homes in our area. You are too far past hope, you are just a poor picked on CNA, with no life. Living in your miserble self induced present and future life.

Onenation, you are so right. We probably just need to let bitter Sawblade have the last word, as his mental illness is impossible for him to conceal. He is unreasonalble, accusatory, and delusional. Check out his other comments on the cat and dog story.
Best of luck to your, dear. Perhaps we'll meet up on the Oprah show when we tell our stories.

You are the kind of guy who just can't handle life on lifes terms so you make up your own little empire in your head. Go ahead and argue with the girls. Thats all you got. Ive seen you all over the paper.Sonoma is right. You have no life. This is all you got and you look for women to pick on cause your a coward, but do you actually "do" anything about what angers you with the long term care "industry"? Or do you just pick on the staff. These gals have worked hard for change. They have hearts. They seem pretty smart to me. You complain just to hear the sound of your own voice.
