If you haven't noticed I am advocating investments that will continue to yield a return year after year. Instead of increased government services we need to spend money on the things that help people serve themselves. Vocational and self sufficiency skills are what is sorely needed at this time, more so than more liberal arts majors who can't find a job and don't have skill enough to nail a backboard on an outhouse!

well evil if you dont think that the united states govterment has naything to do woth the town budget then you are one point smarter then a stone, the govertment spending, oil, economey has alot to do with the town and village budget, the us govt is why the prices are still so high wich makes the town and village budgets so high, no its not the only reason but its a big one, just like it has changed billions of americans lifestyles to change and probably the last pres to have a ballanced budget was clinton and he only did that by In the late 1990s, the government was running what it -- and a largely unquestioning Washington press corps -- called budget "surpluses." But the national debt still increased in every single one of those years because the government was borrowing money to create the "surpluses An overall "downsizing" of government and a virtual end to the arms race have contributed to the surplus, but the vast majority is coming from excess Social Security taxes being paid by the workforce in an attempt to keep Social Security benefit checks coming once the "baby-boomers" start to retire.
The surplus deception is clearly discernible in the statistics of national debt. While the spenders are boasting about surpluses, the national debt is rising year after year. In 1998, the first year of the legerdemain surplus, it rose from $5.413 trillion to $5.526 trillion, due to a deficit of $112.9 billion... The federal government spends Social Security money and other trust funds which constitute obligations to present and future recipients. It consumes them and thereby incurs obligations as binding as those to the owners of savings bonds. Yet, the Treasury treats them as revenue and hails them for generating surpluses. If a private banker were to treat trust fund deposits as income and profit, he would face criminal charges
The only debt that matters is the total national debt. You can have a surplus and a debt at the same time, but you can't have a surplus if the amount of debt is going up each year. And the national debt went up every single year under Clinton. Had Clinton really had a surplus the national debt would have gone down. It didn't go down precisely because Clinton had a deficit every single year. The U.S. Treasury's historical record of the national debt verifies this.

A balanced budget or a budget surplus is a great thing, but it's only relevant if the budget surplus turns into a real surplus at the end of the fiscal year. In Clinton's case, it never did.
and he also cut our security and military wich i believe is one of the reasons we had 911 among other problems, go democrats , there good at smoke and mirrors just like the rest of them

Well Mr. Bauer I can't pick my neighbors, but I'll bet you have some neighbors that have some issues as well, or have them with you. Overall I have some of the best neighbors in the Village. Maybe you should drive up by there and see the beautiful luminaries that we as a community put together every Christmas eve. You can suggest and put me down all you want for whatever reason you see fit. You also can run me down all you like. But I will always be able to voice my opinion in a civil manner and do not have to try to drag someone through the mud like so many here. I do agree that there are ways to save money within our depts. that being said it does not mean year after year to discuss closing them down. So you say the economy is bad?
Well just a heads up I have worked all over the United States, in South Africa and to date in Canada. I literally have seen what the effect of the Global economy has had on so many, not just in Our small community not just in the Newspapers or Television. I am talking 1st. hand. One thing I understand clearly some cuts need to be made, but year after year do the research, be educated as well as informed when making these decisions. That is my point and always will be. Why is it that these decisions continue to be made at the eleventh hour instead of being discussed throughout the year?

Jamie what do you mean by the eleventh hour ? The Trustees talked about this in January this is 5 months before the Village meeting. Seems like this would be enough time for disscussions. I also spoke to a Trustee who told me the Police just happened to be the first fo budget talks, their going to ask for the same in the other depts.I don't recall at any time they discussed closing these dept downs just making then leaner. Yes they did mention the WCSD only after the Chief acted like a child. This is for a comparison I believe. If you have been around the world then yes you have seen it first hand, the economy in in the tank.Jamie again I really think 5 months before Village meeting is suffiecent. If you remember a lot of time was wasted waiting for the BFFD union negotiations to be completed. I think the Trustees have done a great job considering what we went through last year, lets give them some time. We all know its not easy facing these cuts. Safe traveling see you when you get home.

NOT FAIR TO COPS wrote:
It's not the police budget that's driving the tax rate, it's the SCHOOL budget. Scott Falzo's wife, Holly is a SCHOOL teacher. Duh and double Duh! I guarantee you at the village meeting, people will put the cops back in. Get rid of these trustees. If you watched their last meeting you would see they spent all of their time on a grass cutting ordinance.
Isn't it nice how people attack other people's families and then can't even print their own name. Don't hide- give your name. If you had any smarts at all you'd know Falzo's wife doesnt even work for Rockingham- and the Trustees have nothing to do with school budgets- get your facts straight
