Wade and Michelle are dear friends of mine and my husband's. While no one blames the child whose bike struck Cody, more strict measures MUST take place on the dirt track. These young boys should feel safe while riding. Wade and Michelle you are in our prayers. Love, "Nuke" and Jennifer

Dear Fidler family, We cannot imagine the pain you must be feeling regarding the loss of your dear child, Cody. Please know that everyone here in our motocross family sends their deepest condolences and prayers to all of you. Cody's loss has certainly made us take more accountability for our own track safety and to not rely on the promoter to do it for us. We pray that God brings you comfort in knowing that Cody has impacted many lives across the nation already and will for many more motocross years.

A five year old riding motocross? Blame the stupid parents.

Duh wrote: A five year old riding motocross? Blame the stupid parents. I personally knew this child and his parents. Not only is your comment ignorant and misinformed but it's hurtful. I didn't think it was smart to allow a kid to race motorcross and still have my own feelings that, out of respect, I've kept to myself. The problem I have with your comment is that we, as parents, can only protect our children so much before we begin to smother them. This boy loved racing and was on a bike before most kids could walk. His young passion for the sport was very similar to that of my own child's passion for baseball. I buy the helmet, the cups, the guards and the endless supply of bats, gloves and balls. How am I to know that this is - for a fact - going to keep him for taking a foul-tip into the chest and stop his 11 year old heart? The point is we, again as parents, don't. If you've never had a child, you wouldn't understand how difficult the choice is to let them live freely vs. letting them live under your thumb. Sure, this boy was 5. My kids were playing sports at 2 and 5. Like his parents, I've made sure that all of the best and strongest protection has been made available to them. Accidents happen. This was completely avoidable and incredibly unfortunate. This child will forever be loved and missed. Many of us still cry for him - after months - each time we see his picture or watch our own children "jump the ramp." His family is heavily involved in the sport and has been since well before he was born. That was his life before he took his first breath. To have kept this child from doing what he loved second only to his family would have been to offer him a dull life of nothing. Thru their loss and the lessons we've all learned, this family has touched and saved many others. Please be mindful of your words when you make a post such as this.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Cody. I myself have lost a child to the sport of motocross and would like to very much speak with the parents if possible. If anyone has an email they would like to forward to me I would be grateful. And my I give an AMEN to "mother & friend" you are so right. People should be careful of what they say.

My Thoughts and prayers to Cody's family, I can only imaging the pain they must be going through. I'm a parent of a 11 year old boy who loves the sport. I been keeping him away from the sport as much as I can. He currently rides a 90 TR 4 stroke yamaha and wants a 85 yz. I'm saying no to my son not for financial reasons but because I'm afraid for his safety. I hope I'm doing the right thing but it sure feels like the wrong thing. Again.. my thouthts and prayers to all familys that have experienced a loss due to this sport.

It was not then and is not now, in any way, his parents fault. They lost more than a child that day and heartless people like you should just leave your pathetic comments to yourself. God bless you Code-man. We miss you.

HE did nothing wrong on the track. The accident had nothing to do with his age and everything to do with unfortunate events.
There is no difference in this sport and others when the proper safety measures have been taken and rules are followed. Children die on the football/baseball fields each year and no one yells that it's their parents fault for allowing them to play at such a young age.
Unless you were there - doubtful - and saw negligence on the part of his parents - impossible - your ridicule is pointless.
