We should allow the NEW sheriff to take a look at the jail issue. Not vote it in before that person takes office.

Also more taxes at this time, even increased sales tax, NO

How does the population of the county decrease 25% but the jail population double? We should be trying to fix the cause and not the result.

I am not a Veach supporter but feel the need to say that I don't think the over crowding in the jail has as much to do with the DOC as it does the judges. The current judges take months to fill out journal entries that would send inmates sentenced to prison. Instead of letting then sit in Montgomery County do the paperwork and get them out of here. They also set bonds ways to high. After someone has been arrested their bond is set for $50,000 they will sit in jail for six months and then the judge will reduce to $5,000. Does sitting in jail for that long make them cheaper or just fullfil the judge's sense of power? Our judges seem to have forgotten what bond is meant for. Judges should be held accountable and be expected to disposition cases in a timely manner instead of just leaving inmates sitting in jail. Let's look to the real cause of overcrowding in our county jail.

I don't know if everyone is reading the off. pub. in the paper on the jail bond, but it is open ended and does not have a closing date or max. amount they can tax you for the jail.

with so many escapes from the jail i would think that would be enough to not vote for Veach, If he was a good manager there would have been a complete chang of personnel in the jail especially the top [eople over there, I tjust goes to show that he is not tending to business, From all the blogs which i am sure he has seenhe should have taken action on the changes along timeago. From the blogs it seems there was so much sex going over in the jail that it is no wonder they need more beds , it seems they were being used for someone otrher that the preisoners.

Say no to the Jail EXPANSION! Dumb ass criminals put themselves there, so who cares if they sleep on the floor! Better yet why are we holding them so long?

As I understand it, the addition to the jail is to be paid for with sales tax receipts. That sounds fairer than if it were to be paid for by only property taxes. With sales taxes, the tax base is much broader resulting in a smaller bite to each taxpayer.

Until I know who will be managing the jail, and who is sentencing the inmates, there is no way I will vote for an expansion, I certainly will not give the current administrations more tax money to squander.
