Whether we have a wet or dry county is not the issue but it should be noted that certain groups are even against allowing the item to be placed on a ballot for public consideration. What has happened to listening to the will of the people?

If the will of the people were listened to we would not be in Iraq, Bush would be impeached, we would all have health care, gas would be less than $2 a gallon, and we would all live happily ever after. The will of the people is not listened to. People who run for office do so not just for money, but for power. That's right power over you and me. The idea that this is a democracy with the will of the people prevailing is baloney.

why do churchs have so much say in our goverment. our ancestors left the old country to avoid religious domination, came to this country and now their own children are doing the same thing they left the old country to avoid. No alcohol,no gambling;but they do not mind taking money from the lower income people and building multi-million dollar idols. take a good look at your so called religion and realize that men are running it and may be using you for thier benifit. the lord does not need the house of gold, nor the gold coins-only greedy men,

Sharp County needs to bring employment to the area. There are so many unemployed and poor people there. Look at how well Jonesboro and Mountain Home are doing that is because they are progressive. They offer young, as well, seniors’ opportunity. What does Sharp County offer (?) Let me tell you what they offer recreation and tourism. Take advantage of it promote it, market it and yes bring in alcohol if you have to. Your people are starving there. Oh, and to all the people that try to run other peoples lives and dictate laws (and you all know who you are) Jesus drank wine and dinned with the prostitutes if he did not judge what make you think you have the right to. In addition, as far as Danny, his hands are tied by all those people I just mentioned.

Hopefully, the petitioners will follow the law this time around. Mrs. Reynolds, etc. erred when she did not have the petitions properly notarized.
They (the petitioners) are required to sign the petitions in presence of a notary and Mrs. Reynold failed to do so, causing many of the signatures to be invalid. However, the notary public should have never notarized any document if he/she did not witness it being signed.Good luck this time around!

Our foundeing fathers did not want Church and state to meet but our government was founded on christian piricaples. all you have to do is read the constitution to figure that out.
besides money, there really isnt any good thing that alcholol does for a community. the negitives out way the positives and i dont believe any one can disagree. i know you all like to party and get drunk on weekends or have an easy fix. in arkansas, if you dont drink than your boring but im not looking forward to it being passed. i hope it dosent. argue all you want about the money needs to go to our school and it (may) create a few jobs.

That's painting everyone with a really broad brush. I haven't decided whether I am for it or against it. But I do think the citizens should have the right to vote on the issue. There are many negatives that should be considered. And true, they probably outweigh the positives. But that's what each individual must decide for themselves. It is interesting to note that the lady from Cave City (who filed one of the lawsuits) was receiving money from liquor store owners from Thayer and West Plains. but for those who think the tax dollars will come rolling in to Sharp County...you are mistaken.

I have never really seen anything postive come from booze especially now with the rediculously harsh DUI laws costing people 6000 minimum,and the extra crime that inevitably follows but everyone is right. There should be a vote for it, and all you have to do is go to a meeting and put it on the agenda. Thats the way we do it up here anyhow. I think the senior citizens around there are going to shoot it down in flames though, and they are the majority from what I hear.

In Arkansas, you must have petitions signed by 38% of the registered voters in a particular county, before the measure can be voted on. From what I hear, the majority of the "retirees" from up north were in favor of the measure. But again, it never came to a vote due to issues with the petitions. Interesting point on the petitions: A single petition sheet contained approximately 20-25 signatures. However, if even one signature on any particular sheet was found to be invalid, the entire sheet of 20-25 names was discarded.

I signed the petition before, and I've signed again.

This time I think Ms. Reynolds will go about things more carefully. It should at least go on the ballot...if it's voted dry than that's fine. I'll be a little upset but at least it was done fairly. Not by a bunch of overbearing Christians being backed by out of town beerstores who are afraid of losing money.

And about the senior citizens: Yes, they do make up a large majority of voters. But there is also a large number of youths (18-25) who are quite eligable to vote. When this first came about I saw MANY 18 year olds take a sudden intrest in politics (lol) and register to vote.

I meant no offense to Christians...only OVERBEARING ones...such as Yota Shaw. Have the misfortune of knowing the woman. I see her as the type to have a "vision from God" and go on a killing spree.

As Far as the lotto is concerned. It is should start at the end of this year. Of not The First of Next. They are lookin at how to run it and make sure things are run smoothly.. They are Looking at other states that do lottery and getting ideas.
