Too bad Joe Shanahan did not quote the lyrics of his favorite song "Jailhouse Rock".

That would have been a better ending sentence.

He may have had some problems, but he made a VERY strong case last night for why this shouldn't be built.

In fact, his presentation was given a cheering ovation by the residents who attended the meeting.

The plans for this project, publicly available at town hall, show just how ridiculous the proposal is. It should not be built, and the town itself, along with the Currie family, specifically wrote this restriction to keep the space open.

I have no doubt that Shanahan made a persuasive argument. That's what he's paid to do. Nor do I doubt that the neighbors cheered him. That's who's paying him to be there. The proposal does look like a very bad idea.

Shanahan's still a thief, and I wouldn't trust him to tell me what year it is without checking a calendar.

i agree with wow. i think that the eliopolous's believe that the golden child deserves a golden handshake for his 15 yrs of service. someone should let them know this is not lowell. if my memory still serves me correctly isnt philly on the masterplan committee the committee that is suppose to be protecting what little open space chelmsford still has. after this nonsense maybe he should see if he can put up a building and billboard on the town common. im sure they will say it should be allowed because financially the numbers would work for THEM. watch this deal closely behind the firestation, there is much more sleazy s*** that will surface on this in the future. just thinking about it makes me want to take a shower!!!

Eliopoulos has done a great job for this town.
This project has nothing to do with his serivce and the boards will decide if it is to be approved.
I have faith in them whatever their decision.

Shanahan is a convicted felon who falsified statements to the town. He went to jail for his lies. Now why should he believed now?

actually this profect has alot to do with his service or should i say disservice to this town. that however is a story for another day. did you hear how mr zaharoulos treated the first few speakers who spoke against the project. come on and you dont think the chairmans tone and manners were even alittle inappropriate? and ms mcquiggan wasnt any better. did you hear the older gentleman describe how a few of the board members and town employees had a look of disgust as the opposition spoke against this blatant disregard for the preservation of this beautiful protected open space in chelmsford center. we will see what town counsel has to say. either way fasten your seatbelt its looking like a LONG bumpy road ahead on this one.

Shanahan made a very compelling case against this project- his personal issues are of no consequence. He is simply presenting the facts about the land and the history or the decisions.

Phil isn't exactly a saint, in case you didn't know. Only difference between him and Shanahan is that Phil hasn't been charged with anything... yet.

Seems like kind of a sweet deal for Phil and family to buy 3 acres of land in Chelmsford center for $480k, with an historic building on it. Especially when the bank had paid $1,180,000 for it back in 2001. As a real estate attorney, you would think Phil would recognize a deal that's too good to be true.

Their presentation was great- I think they decided to skip over most of the facts and just whitewash the commitee and town with a mountain of nonsense about what kind of trees and bushes they are going to plant. Come on!

And the Lawyer they used to write a Legal Opinion is an old friend and classmate of Phil's from Suffolk. I'm sure that's an unbiased opinion. Ervin should get himself out of this fiasco before it comes back to bite him.

This project should not be allowed to move forward. Phil, as a former selectman and current member of the master plan commitee, cannot claim ignorance of the restrictions in place on this property or the spirit of them. He and daddy just think they can run this over the town and get what they want. That's a nice piece of land that should be left alone. Do we really need more traffic trying to turn back onto North Road from the Massbank exit. Shame on the Eliopoulos clan. This project is an insult to the town.

Chelmsford — Residents are hoping the town’s Master Plan will put preserving open space and historic buildings at the forefront of its list of priorities.

Philip Eliopoulos, vice chairman of the committee, said residents at the final public input session on the Master Plan earlier this month stressed the importance of ensuring the town use the open space it has to the fullest capacity.

“They want to make sure it is looked after, kept clean and it has a purpose,” said Eliopoulos.

Imagine that!?

Very well put. This is too funny to actually read. To say one minute, as the vice chairman of the master plan committee, that they want to preserve open space, to the next minute, here is a plan to take away open space. Does he think we are all stupid here? We know what this is about, expanding his empire, and cashing in all he has "done" for the town as a selectmen....what a joke.
