As someone who regularly travels on most of the major interstate corridors through Ohio, I would have to say that we should focus on high-speed rail. Getting the bipartisan Oberstar-Mica Surface Transportation Authorization Act of 2009 through congress and onto Obama's desk no matter what his objections will be key to funding infrastructure projects and preparing to move on from just adding umpteen lanes on a highway. A 75-foot wide high-speed rail corridor can handle the traffic of 16 interstate highway lanes at a lower fuel and emission expense. Go with the John Mica, James Oberstar, and the transportation and business experts on this one. Write your senators and congressmen.

Wonderful news... I guess this means that the red chinese are still loaning us money.

The rail lines they are proposing are going to be a joke. Why hop on a train, pay $50 to arrive at your destination in 2 hours, when you can do so by car. If the train is 1) high speed or 2) the cost is minimal (like $10) then we're talking. |

We have to prioritize getting these passenger rail lines, especially the '3-C Corridor' in operation ASAP. State and federal governments can no longer afford adding and maintaining lane-after-lane of interstate highway. One 75' wide high-speed rail corridor can handle the traffic of 16 lanes of freeway, at higher speeds, using less fuel, and causing less pollution. A big start would be support of the bipartisan Surface Transportation Authorization Act of 2009 which would devote $50 billion to high-speed rail and almost $100 billion for public transit to link up to those trains. I'm writing my congressman in support of this bill, you all should write yours.

We can only drive 65mph on the highway - but ODOT has to drive 100 mph to build them!
