Why are the law makers being paid if they are not doing there jobs? If I didn't get my job done, I wouldn't get paid.

So, how is my houselhold supposed to manage it's bills since both me and my spouse work for the state? No eating out, no purchases other than absolute necessities, no tax collections for the state, no nothing. I guess it's better to ensure that EVERYONE BUT THE POLITICIANS suffer for their ineptitude. paterson makes me sick to my stomach!

Furloughs will solve nothing, the piddly amount it will save to the overall deficit is nothing. Each day the budget isn't passed is like throwing $25 million or more out the window. Remember this next time your in the voting booth and DON'T pull a lever next to an incumbents name

If this is what it takes to get the Legislature and the Governor to find some common ground, then so be it. I would prefer to lose a few dollars than lose my job all together. With the flick of a wrist whole departments can be dismantled and the staff left to blow in the wind. No one should be so smug as to believe that they or their job is so important they aren't at risk of being eliminated.

How about the governor and legislators going without pay until they do the job they were elected to do. At least the state employees are working. Leave them alone. Not a state employee by the way.

They worry about losing a day of pay...awwwwww too bad, should have done a better job you idiots!! There are LOTS of people out of work completely because of state cutbacks.. as a direct result of waste and incompetence of NYS employees.
Don't worry, it's going to get much much much worse for NY. Take the furloughs now, because next year, there might not be any pay for you at all.

I find it amazing that these state workers with their labor union get exhorbident pay!!! Some of these high school drop outs with their GEDs get paid more than folks with master degrees from the private sector!!!!
So I say to you fat state workers... GET A CLUE. I dont' feel bad for YOU!

Doesn't anyone at the Capital realize that a decrease in the pay for State workers translates into a decrease in purchasing which leads to decreased income for the State? Economics 101.

The bulk of State workers are clerks at a salary little above the substinance level. These are the people who truly allow the State to function on a day-to-day basis; who allow you to enjoy the services you receive from the State. Most of us don't receive nearly what we could in private industry yet we work to serve the public [that's YOU]!

If you spend $100 and get back only $4, you ARE running a deficit and will be OUT OF BUSINESS in a jiffy!!! So who ever you are "1 of many State employees" you must of barely passed the 10th grade; must be one of those GED state employees and Senator Joe got you the job! So now you make 45K/yr with excellent benefits where in the private sector you would be making 25K/yr if you were lucky!

I am just another low level state employee too and I approve this message... and the one before it too!

It would be one thing if all those clerks had even half the efficiency and dedication that their private sector counterparts are required to maintain... but every state clerk Ive ever known is simply trying to get through another 7.5 hours doing the least amount of labor possible without getting fired (which is damn near impossible in itself).
Additionally, they have the average brain capacity of a canary... all so righteous in what they think they know of the world - you havent had to explain yourself to a boss or compete in the increasingly vicious job market in a decade or more! Try the private sector for just one week and I guarantee you'd come crawling back ready to lick Patersons corn chute!

Furloughs are illegal, union members would not renegotiate a contract in the middle of one during good times and we should not be forced to do so in rough times!
We can and will vote to throw these guys Breslin, McEneny and rest out this fall! Good bye to your jobs legislators! No budget no vote!

We should start by cutting back all these state jobs that are not needed or because a relative needed a job. I work for a private not-for-profit and we have had to let 3 staff go and cut back services to the elderly of this state. Some may think that 3 is not a lot but it is when you started out with 14 and serve a huge population. Then I was lucky enough to go to a state meeting today just to find out that my tax dollars just along with everyone else's is going to a company that is not even located in NY but in CA. Why is this state not awarding contracts to NY businesses? Why was this company allowed to even bid in the first place????????? Why would private businesses want to stay in NY? Why would anyone want to stay in NY? We need to remember that these people work for US!!!!! We should not tolerate this anymore. I am so disguisted with this state and looking to get out along with everyone else. To the state workers complaining about a furlough, sorry I feel your pain, but you still have a job, many people do not. So be grateful that you get 3 days off and get to spend more time with your family.
