Thanks "Heh". It's a good article:

"An individual’s view of the court can depend on whose ox is being gored by its decisions; a “judicial activist” is often just a jurist who doesn’t do what you want."

My own opinion is it will be more devastating to the country if the law is struck down. The SC will need to show clearly and beyond a doubt how this law was unconstitutional.

This law is a huge, costly mess. And in all likelihood the nation will be better off without it.

Regardless of what the Supreme Court does or does not rule, we will still need to work together to improve health care treatments and ensure access.

If their decision is negative, a future scotus could argue as Roberts pointed out "Everybody is in this market, so that makes it very different than the market for cars or the other hypotheticals that you came up with, and all they’re regulating is how you pay for it."

The 'commerce' is already there. A tax would serve the same purpose, so I don't see the danger in setting precedent as justification for other mandates which could be argued on their own merit.

Just a lot of dancing around.

The entire healthcare system and insurance industry has been a huge, costly mess all along. The Affordable Care Act is a huge step toward addressing this, and of course, will continue to be evaluated as it takes effect. To have it struck down entirely is going to be seen as partisanship during an election year and not bring the country together.

I agree that "regardless of what the Supreme Court does or does not rule, we will still need to work together to improve health care treatments and ensure access." Actually, more like starting all over again, and it hasn't happened until this bill was passed.

How about giving up your cell phone, plasma TV, dish service to pay for your meds instead.
Or take care of yourself so that you do not need so much medication!

Not even its biggest boosters claim the Affordable Care Act's "cost controls" have teeth.

The harsh reality is that ACA is not a "huge step forward." What it does is reinforce the worst aspects of our current system.

The nation will be better off without it.

One round of chemo could set you back $10,000 if you don't have insurance. Giving up your TV and phone isn't going to help with a bill like that.

A woman with breast cancer needing a mastectomy may face a bill of $50,000 upwards. You really think selling the TV is going to help there.

People don't choose to get cancer. The uninsured - many of whom are working either in low paid jobs or who are self employed - who are unfortunate enough to get a cancer diagnosis are facing bankruptcy.

Its obvious by now that the Supremely Right Wing Court will strike this down. It is also obvious that those who support its demise have yet to experience any debilitating illness, just wait your turn, its a commin. This all wouldn't be such a big deal if pharmaceuticals and insurance companies didn't own DC but what else is new. So let it get cast aside, one more nail in the coffin for this corrupt country.

I hope you never have to understand what it is like to be diagnosed with a life-threatening or costly disease. There are countless ailments that cannot be prevented with even the best care you can provide for yourself.

You seem a biased and more than a little bitter.

Sweet Zombie Jesus, Dunleavy!

Did you even bother to offer a counterpoint to this biased view?

Anything coming from Virginia Organizing is to be treated as socialist propoganda. You could at least asked some conservative person their opinion, or even better gotten an accountant to explain how deficit spending will ultimately fail any time it is employed.

Did you even bother to mention that other central Virginians are opposed to anyone in government making healthcare choices for us?

Did you bother to mention that most of this act isn't in place yet, and that the massive spending that would be put in place by it would throw this nation even further into debt?

Weeping Jesus, you didn't even bother to NOT use the Virginia Organizing sign as a backdrop! Why didn't you just let the lovely Szakos family send in the video for you?

NBC29, I expect more from you than being a puppet for left wing drivel.

Apparently here in the land of equality, we cannot allow democracy to interfere with the wishes of activist goups.

PS: It is also a matter of life or death for people who are not seniors and people who are not on medication--Food is a necessity.

How many people make up this group, "Virginia Organizing?" I never see more than one dozen or less at their protests--yet they always make the front page headlines? WHY?

I find it interesting that the T-people want to continue to pay ever increasing health insurance premiums. Why is it okay to drop the safety net of shared sacrifice, to see that all people; veterans, police, fireman, teachers, children, mothers, fathers, those who are successful and those who can hardly make ends meet to not have quality health care.

Buying into the scare tactics of those who will say anything to kill this bill is sad. Particularly when this bill incorporates ideas like everyone must pay, a Repuglican innovation that the new savior of that same party put in his Romneycare in Massachusetts.

I have heard many tales over the last few days as to the divide the SCOTUS decision will create. One thing we can all depend on; we will meet each other in the doctor's office or the ER some day. The only question will be; how will that bill be paid?

Daily Horoscope for May 24

Capricorn

If you need to get someone organized, this is the day to do it. You'll sort things out without sounding bossy or patronizing, and you'll also get co-operation instead of resistance. It's a good day for having a serious chat with a child, perhaps because you need to explain something and want to make sure you do it properly, in a way that doesn't create confusion or fear.
