Sorry but I don't agree about a toll. The New York State Thruway has one of the highest tolls that we have seen in our travels, but remember when the thruway bridge collapsed near Amsterdam years ago killing several people? Just because you pay a toll doesn't mean things are going to be maintained.

Can you imagine if the toll was still up, the bridge would have been able for maintenance and repairs. So guess what tough learn how to damn deal with it. People up here complain too damn mu
Youre a fool.#1 I was a kid when the toll was taken out.I'm pretty sure I couldn't of stopped it #2 People do not deserve additional hardship. Many families(innocent children) will suffer for this and people will loose their income, their jobs, maybe their homes, etc. and #3 As someone who IS FIGURING IT OUT, who IS DRIVING AROUND, who is spending twice the gas money and time to get to the job I have supported my family with for the last 10 YEARS I don't appreciate you telling me to get over it and figure it out. And your comment that "people Up here" complain too much tells me you are not from "up here" and therefore COMPLETELY OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE SITUATION. You obviously don't get it. Idiot!

the issue here is that the bridge needs to be replaced. it is a hardship for people to go around and has and will continue to affect the local economy. the only temporary solution that would work is a bridge. they can install one using multiple ways, one would be to use construction barges from Albany, New York or Montreal to make a 1 lane bridge. put traffic lights on either end and have them cross alternately. the other is to use a temporary bridge like the military does, both options you would need to sink pilings to anchor them to, but it can be done and done quickly. also if you were to place bubblers around them it would keep ice from being a problem. the money that the state of New York and the State of Vermont are spending on the ferries could be put to better use by making a temporary bridge. this would also ease the traffic problems that are only going to get worse with the ski seasons starting and later next year when summer tourism begins. quit arguing about it and present ideas like this to your government like i will be doing with this as well. help the solution along, don't hinder it by arguing.

You're something else!!! When the toll was removed there was a "Trust Fund" for the bridge that had enough money to build another bridge!!!!!! You didn't know that, did you???? There wasn't any need for a toll! HOWEVER, that fund was used for other things over the years. Not the fault of the people, the fault of the people who represented us. So now they pay, but we all suffer...
