Why did Plumpton Park Zoo close so suddenly?
|
|
|
Probably ran out of funding. They said they were really hurting and trying to take in more animals that had no other place to go last fall. This is why people need to support these small Zoos!!

I posted this same question in the cecil county topix. Some said that the owner is 80 and I guess didn't want to own the place anymore. Some people tried to buy but couldn't get financing. I don't know if any of that si true but it's what i read

the animals are kept in unhealthy conditions .. most zoos are bad; plumpton is not really a zoo, just a bunch of penned animals

Come on out and check out the New and Improved Plumpton Park zoo! New board of directors, new staff, lots of awesome improvements. The zoo is making improvements every day and the animals are healthy and in clean enclosures!

Ida, I wonder when you visited last. The zoo is vastly improved, I encourage you to check it out. |

I'm taking my grandchildren soon. I do hope it's a fun day. The website says you can bring picnic lunch and relax. I'm for anyone who loves animals and children and the elderly. |

We went on Saturday and took a 2+ year old. It was great and worth the entrance price. And you can bring home all the free peacock feathers you can find. No pulling them out of the birds!

I went last week. The animals are technically cared for, but are miserable nonetheless. The enclosures are too small for the cats, the Lynx is going insane, pacing the cage. The Kapuchin monkey is alone and grooming herself bald because she is going insane. Monkeys are social creatures solitary confinement is torture. This is a zoo that needs to vastly improve living conditions or close.

Actually, the owner is trying her best to locate a second mate or friend for all the animals and they are replacing the old pens and habitats as the donations roll in... which has been slow. If you want to see progress, donate to the zoo and I'm sure they will put it to good use for the continuing care and support of the animals.
