Didn't hear anybody say he was legal pulling a trailer. Used to be a trailer had to be licensed as well as a boat. Maybe I can just drive my car with no insurance down a road with no lines too. What other stupid laws are there. Some towns require a license on a bicycle. Even people get fined for jaywalking in town. The laws are as stupid as the lawmakers in Charleston. Some of those ATVs will go as fast as a motorcycle, which btw require a license. You see more at night than during the day so they have no regard for the law. They even cut down fences and go on property where they clearly are not wanted. A hardware store that sells fence told me about that.

Get a life and quit crying, it's an atv pulling a little trailer. Wow, his 15 to 20mph deserves all of that, hate to see what they would do to you for 40. Probably shoot you, no questions asked.

There isn't enough to count on one hand that is used legally. Many have no lights and ones that do are not working properly. Just about all of them have the muffler torn off or sound like it. A lot of riders not old enough for a license anyway. The road I live on has lines and they go by my house every day. And they go faster than the speed limit. Don't tell me they only go 35mph. That is not true. Thats why some get killed, going 60 or 70mph. Sometimes only the back wheels on the ground.

What makes you think he tried to resist? I didn't see that mentioned anywhere. It also wouldn't matter if he did. Never does an officer have the right to strike a subdued suspect. Hell I wouldn't even call this guy a suspect just a victim. If I'm not mistaken they didn't even charge him with anything. So in what would do you live in that it's okay to arrest people for no reason then beat them for the fun of it?

The problem is that bad cops do as they please with no fear of retribution or justice coming back to bite them. Lawyers are the only thing that get results when dealing with bad cops. They hit them where it hurts them, in the wallet.

I agree 100%, bad cops are the scum of the earth. If he was in the police station then he was hand cuffed, doesn't matter what he said or did, doesn't deserve to be hit.

Only a stupid cop would ever defend the actions taken by these officers. I don't care if they caught the guy dealing coke to grade school kids, at no point do they have the right to violate people's rights. It happens all the time where I live. But the few people that have the guts to sue over it almost always win because everyone here knows how stupid and pathetic some of the officers here are. I hope they bankrupt the state police budget. Then I hope they charge these guys with attempted murder. Anyone who can cuff a stranger to a bench and take shots at him should be cut down at the knees so he never again gets the chance to step on another's rights.

Policing in the United States has gone down hill. At first it was big cities that were overwhelmed with cases of drugs, gang violence, murder, theft, and other serious crimes. These places had to adapt from community policing into more strict and cautious methods of working. The problem with this is that those same stricter methods, while effective in big cities, have no real application in small town America. But that doesn't stop officers and departments from trying to use the same strong arm tactics in small towns as their metropolitan counter parts. This leads to a complete alienation of the community from the police. Even your average citizens loses confidence in their police force. Which leads to a lack of general respect in the community. This builds and widens the gap between officers and those who they should be protecting. Creating a high number of cases of burn out (exposure to crime that either desensitize police or to the other extreme causes paranoia and inability to distinguish every day citizens from criminals). Some officers never reach that point, but once one does they are more likely to engage in behaviors like the violence described in the article. Add that to the natural pack mentality that usually accompanies male dominated social service work. What you find yourself having is a disconnected force that cannot effectively do their job. Not to mention the problems of low pay at high risk positions that lead to under qualified hires. It's just a complete disaster.
