I haven't seen anything on the news about this, but rumor has that the General Manager & Comptroller @ Smith Company Motor Cars were relieved of their duties due to embezzling money. Does anyone know anything about this?? Why isnt it being reported?

Is it really any of your business? If it is true, I'm sure it will be on the news. If it isn't true, I'm sure it will be on Topix.

When I worked as a ad rep for a tv station, our news department never covered a negative story about a business if that business advertised on our station. That would have upset the client and our management didn't want to lose a $300,000 a year (or maybe more) account over a 4 minute story on the 6pm news. Yes it was unfair and why I left the business and went into healthcare. I'm sure radio stations and newspapers do the same.

I feel it is every law abiding tax paying citizen's business. Just funny how if there is a meth lab found, drug bust etc., it is "Breaking News". But if it is a "Blue Collar crime" ie. embezzlent seems to make the back page if at all. High end car dealerships such as Smith probably won't press charges against these two for fear of bad PR & let these two go on & do it to some other unsuspecting innocent business. SMH

Truly a shame... Jeb Smith is one of the kindest & best to work for owners ever. He was traing Mr Bailes to take over when he retired. What a way to repay him. LOL

if this story is true

What is so sad if this story is true, is that I am sure both of these individuals were well paid. Probably 6 figures. Makes you wonder what is wrong with people these days.

Strange but true, it it weren't for Topix the story of Judge Watkins in Hurricane probalby would not have seen the light of day.

I know. Sometimes I think Topix will tell it first, but there's also so much bull crap and just out-and-out lies started on here. You never know when someone is just starting trouble or if they really know something. This one, if true, is really sad. I always heard employees there were always treated very good. You never know, though.

All I can say is if Mr Smith does not press charges against these two individuals, I hope the I.R.S forescloses their homes &freezes their bank accounts

Sorry to say but our management has the final say of all stories that go on the air. I don't know if Smith Motors does tv advertising, I don't think I have seen a tv commerical from them in years but my company does alot of trade with advertiers, which means you give us new carpet for our offices and we give you $15000 in commericals, and we do alot of trade with car dealers, carpet companies, appliance stores (tv's, refrigs and furniture for our offices and lobby) and even clothing stores. There are so many stories that never make the air. That is why our newscast is nothing but meth labs and car wrecks. The company I work for is so controlling over news content that I am counting down the days that my contract ends so I can get out of that place.

Let me make something 100% totally clear. Neither "Mr. Bailes" nor the comptroller embezzled any money from Smith Company Motor Cars. How do I know? I know the lawyer who represents both individuals and I know he had the books reviewed with the assistance of a CPA. He was also present when they removed their personal belongings from the building. He told me last night that he traced "Concerned Citizens" comments to an employee of Smith Co. who has planted this rumor as a way to start disinformation about the real reason they were terminated. He told me that the real reason will be in the newspapers very shortly. In fact because of what the owner did and the potential damage to other employees the court may disolve the company. This was an attack without warning for purely business reasons. Both individuals built the company that it is today. Both are pursuing numerous civil claims against the company and it's owner Jed Smith. This is not the first time Mr. Smith has used a top management employee and tossed him to the side when finished. So the answer to the question: why hasn't it been in the newspaper is simple. Because the story you are talking about is 100% false and the real story is about to begin. Also if it were me I would continue to spread false information about someone on the Internet. Because fals information like this can damage a persons professional reputation, unless it is true, you can be sued for liable, slander and defamation of character. I'm pretty sure that since this false rumor originated from sources associated with Smith Co that they and the person responsibile for starting the rumor are going to be sued as well. From what the lawyer told me, the first amendment right of free speech does not include liable, slander and defamation. Sort of like screaming "fir" in a movie theater is not protected either.

Concerned Citizen my butt, you are in way over your head. Ever wonder what it's like to have to testify under oath? I think you're going to be finding out real soon! If it were me, I'd keep my mouth shut but it's too late for that isn't it!

Wow how stupid are you...ex-wife. There is no ex-wife! This is another current or former employee spreading false information under an equally false name. Unless this is Jed Smith's ex wife.

Customer...really? Sounds more like the moral police. Even if what you say is true, have you ever made a mistake? Done something you later regretted? The real SCUM BAG is the person who judges!
Ever read Matthew 7:3? "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" Judge not lest ye be judged.

Why isn't this in the news? Because you are the one spreading the rumor and you know it is half truths and lies. Funny thing the perception of anonymity. You think you can hide but your computer hard drive can't!

I'm going to jump in here again, because I haven't said anything that your "lawyer" friend would get me for, yet! lol You have said a lot of things to almost everyone on here who has made a comment and all of it is accusatory in nature. Interesting to me that you are claiming the lawyer for these two employees is telling you what is going on with this "situation", and I know that wouldn't happen. Never. Now, you might work for the lawyer, or you might truly be one of these two people being discussed here (or a friend/family member), but don't get on here and sort of make threats to others for what you claim are slanderous comments, when you are not being truthful yourself. I have seen nothing on here which anyone could be sued for, EXCEPT for the things you have said. YOU claim to know everything that has or is happening and you are on here blabbing it all over Topix. I would think the person who would have anything to fear would be you. No one has stated anything to be fact except YOU. These are people who have heard something and discussing it. You are claiming everyone of them to be workers of the company and even go so far as to say it is the same person because of the posting address. That's really absurd. Look at the others which are the same as your posting address. Are they all you? You might know what is the truth of this story, but you are also lying about some of what you say. You must have a lot at stake in the matter for you to do that. I repeat, a lawyer would not be talking to you about his clients and if he were, he sure as heck wouldn't want you to repeat it on here. Your entire post smells a little "off"...

I think the point the person named The Real Story was trying to make is that you shouldn't be on here causing or helping to spread rumors. Things like this can ruin a persons personal and professional life. It sort of like being accussed of child molestation. Don't get me wrong I'm not defending people like that, I'm just saying no one really waits around to find out the truth when a rumor harmful. It's not like someone is going to get back on here if and when the truth comes out and take back what they said. My Dad used to put it this way, if you ask someone if they stopped beating their wife, the answer really doesn't matter. Just because people on here are saying...I'm not saying this is true but...or I heard a rumor..." Those are really accussations. The fact is rumors that are created or spread by people can cause them to be sued. It happens all the time just ask the Enquirer or the Globe. I think the guy or woman was just trying to warn people to be careful. Plus I think one person said the were employeed by Smith Co. didn't they? I agree with the person who wrote what you are condemning. Talk about smelling funny, do you really think that an ordinary citizen who just happens to start a rumor about this would call it "Embezzlement" instead of "stealing money", would know and use the titles of the people involved "Comptroller" etc who even knows what that is...isn't it a book keeper or Accountant? And who would call the company by it's properly registered name Smith Company Motor Car...instead of Smith Company or the Mercedes dealer. If you don't think that stuff smells funny then you need to check your pants!(Just a joke don't get mad). I think we need to wait to see what comes out in the paper. You know like you said earlier it's really not our business. It's a private company and doesn't have any of our tax funds involved. Just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions! lol
