she is profoundly marginal. Taylor is a name for porn girls and frisbee catching dogs and now marginally talented country music singers, too!

Shows how far "country" music has tanked in recent years. Corporate Nashville would rather take some pop, water it down then force feed it to the masses rather than find real talent. Will true music fans and musicians give up and let the genre sink further or will there be an uprising of people tired of this kind of "talent"?

WHat it does show is how far country has grown, and how popular it is with the 'crossover' crowd. There is still traditional country availabe if you want it. Country is changing and getting a new larger audience just like other music has changed over the years to create new genres.
Taylor is probably not my first choice, but you have to give her and her team congratuations on such a feat.

Country music started to become more popular with middle-class, middle-aged white people when the popular music culture devolved into rap and other forms of ghetto expression they couldn't relate to.

Based on who's been getting the CMA awards (Taylor Swift and others), it's now obviously aimed at teenaged white girls.

Swift is a classy and talented 19 year old but might want to step back out of the spotlight awhile. Kris Kristopherson was definately loaded, Reba is frightening, Underwood is gorgeous and talented, George Strait is a legend, Chesney is becoming one, and the Judds are a complete and total mess.

The only thing I got out this awards show is the feeling that Hank Williams Sr, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and Dottie West are turning over in their graves. Pop singers like Taylor Swift don't belong on the stage that true country singers have graced. Call me old fashioned, call me out of touch, the current crop of country singers [men and women] aren't what country is all about. They are manufactured by Nashville and spoon fed to the people whose attention spans have been limited to 30 second bites.

I think she won because she is tall. Certainly not due to talent. I think maybe the general population is deaf and that is why they think she is great. Where was Kanye last night?? They probably wouldn't let him in. He is right about alot of things and this is one of them for sure.

I'm quite impressed with her writing these songs at her young age. Wish I had that much talent! Wish I had ANY talent!

If it's country, it's not music. It's only moaning or whaling. It all sounds sick.

Swift won because of the Kayne West incident. The CMA doesn't award talent, with the exception of Mac McAnally for Musician of the Year. It's all about publicity and earning power. Always has been. They didn't do her any favors giving her all those awards. When you start at the top, there's only one way to go...down.

Catering to the younger, "crossover" crowd is a mistake. They have an attention span of about 2 minutes and then it's off to the next flavor of the month. Does nothing for the long term.

I was a voting member back in the 90's and dropped my membership because of this kind of thing. Back then it was Garth Brooks. Now, it's the current flavor of the month, Taylor Swift. Next year, maybe it'll be a Classical crossover. Zac Brown was playing a Classical guitar after all. Whoever's earning the most.

How many Country award shows are there? Seems like there is a "Made for TV" award show every month featuring Taylor Swift.

There are only 2 major shows for Country, the CMA's and ACM (Academy of Country Music). There were also the Music City News Awards, but I'm not sure if they have them anymore. The Music City Awards were fan based voting while the other two are industry member voting.

There's an even chance that 20 years from now, kids will be singing Taylor Swift songs around the campfire.

There's zero chance they'll be singing one from Kanye West.

Garth Brooks was stopped with his Limo in Corvallis Oregon when I was there, he signed an autograph for us. A class act all the way. He didn't have to stop there and be good to the fans.
