"The good news is that all the agencies involved in this investigation were fully committed to joining forces to stop this activity, and the results speak for themselves."

Arrests are only a small part of the procedure. Too often the good old boys screw up a case with badly worded indictments, false statements in a criminal complaint, attempts to use "fruit from the poison tree" (manufactured evidence or evidence illegally obtained), and employ other fatal flaws in criminal proceedings. If all the cops had to do was to pack guns and slap on handcuffs, the job would be easy. Unfortunately, criminal justice is not an exact science and requires a high level of literacy and skillful knowledge of the English language, whence come all our laws (i.e., English Common Law).

(Favorable) "results" come only after they outsmart the shyster defense attorneys and often corrupt and incompetent judges.

If there was any justification for the death penalty, this it. They need to face the same results as the people that were killed with these guns that they supplied.

They all have histories of narrowly avoiding arrest. That cartel money is tough to beat in a New Mexico court. I bet things get curly and they are given a slap on the wrist.

Thank God they were finally caught. Those guns were going directly to the cartel and these boys are connected. No doubt that money and drugs played a key part in all of this. They can reap a 300% profit by turning drug money on this side into a rifle and then taking it across.

They werent selling those guns to the oppressed in Chiapas. They were selling them to their buddies in the cartel. If our law is any good at all they will find other connections in this case.

Excellent post, Bob. That Police Chief has been gaming this for a long time. Think people will be surprised when it all comes out and they see how long he's gotten away with his criminal activities. He's been fired, rehired, investigated, quit, moved, hired somewhere else. How many times did he drive his OFFICIAL car out to the desert loaded and nobody gives him a second thought? Mayor, same kind of low-life. MAYBE visits the U.S. Port, Border Patrol, CBP guys. Familiar face. "how you guys doing, what's on for today, catch anything, where did you find that, whose working today, what time you change shifts"?? Of course, these guys probably avoided him like the plague. Around the Ports, always rumors, suspicions about some people, no matter who they are. The Police Chief is a bit more worrisome. What did he get away with?

Our U.S. Govt aka Homeland Security should always place their focus on the smuggling of firearms across to Mexico rather than the drug dealing. Without weapons the drug cartels are limited in their scope of control sigfnificantly. Then we can return to having a friendly cooperation with Mexico regarding U.S. citizens demand for drugs.

Well Ella (if this is REALLY you), seems that most of the time you are pretty level-headed about some of this stuff, but this time, not so sure. You see the whole reason for the gun smuggling, guns in general is the cartels, the drug business. And at last guess- timates, that's a 30 BILLION$$$$$ per year business. The cartels, Mexico is never, ever going to give up any piece of that. One Drug Czar was in bed with Amado Carillo Fuentes. Then you got Mayors, Governors, Policia, Federales( the Presidente's own bodyguard), Military, public officials, politicians who are always willing to look the other way to make a buck. Or in the case of the cartel connections, MILLION of bucks. The "cooperation"?? Giving Mexico MILLIONS for guns, helicopters, electronics, all or some of it going to the cartels. Since 2006, about 150,000 Mexican military have deserted to the cartels. How many U.S. bought guns went with them? How many military, policia "lose" their guns everyday? The Policia?? Hell they have no clue how many stay on the job, but actually work for the cartels day in and day out. The U.S. is SUPPOSED to share intelligence information with Mexico. What happens to the info? Sold to the cartels, bought and paid for as soon as it enters Mexico. So no, don't think that any one should have a warm, fuzzy feeling about "cooperation" with Mexico. It's like the Merida Initiative money. They say they will take our money, but they refuse to give the U.S. any accounting for who or where it goes to.

Would a corrupt criminal be a good guy? Still, all cops can die for all I care. This place would be a lot safer if they did.

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Pisces

You're raring to go today, especially on domestic projects. You'll achieve a tremendous amount if you're allowed to proceed at your own pace and in your own time, but you'll soon get ratty if you suspect someone is breathing down your neck or trying to tell you what to do. You'll also feel irritated with people you know really well, so be prepared for a few fireworks.
