They want to spruce up the North end of town. That is what I've heard..........same group of people on the committee..........They want to spruce it up so it will look nice to people visiting our city..........sad that they don't want to spruce it up for the people that live here. |

DON'T THINK THEY CAN DO MUCH ABOUT IT . THE NORTH END IS LIKE THE DEAD ZONE . AFTER X STREET IT GETS BAD AND RUN DOWN. THE SHOPPING CENTER BEHIND THE OLD BANK BUILDING IS NOW FOR WORKERS AND DRUG TEST SO WHO WONTS TO GO THERE . WHAT ELSE IS LEFT. BODY SHOPS GAS STATIONS . PAWN SHOPS, THEY WAITED TO LATE .

It sure is. I can see someone planning a vacation to Deer Park, Texas. Just more waste of tax funds.

Don't forget they can shop our local wiccan store on the N. end of town.

Yes, I am sure that will be a big tourist attraction.

How about a Park And Ride like Baytown did. By summer gas will be $4.00 a gallon and a lot of folks work downtown. I am sure if the price of the land was right Metro would build it for the right price and tax break. Then you could attract people, resturants and other businesses. And what a great service to the citizens. Not to mention a great way to get to work, Texan, Rocket or Astro games.

No to metro..........It would be nice at first, but eventually it would attract undesirables. My dad always said "trash won't move & live where they can't catch a bus"..........Sorry to be against you on this one....... |

Just how do you define "undesirables"? That type of logic is what got the golf course off on the wrong foot. Too many "undesirables" drove out here to play golf and were turned away because of the dress code. They "drove" back to the nicer areas in Houston to play and took their money with them. Sorry to burst your bubble princess but the trash is already here. I've never understood this attitude in Deer Park. It is one thing to take pride in your town, but to look down your nose at others is just wrong. This place isn't that special. Yes, it is all white. Is that what you really mean by "undesirables"? I have heard that Deer Park voted against Metro for that reason when it first came up years ago. The only reason this town has nice ammenities is because of Shell. Otherwise, it is a blue-collar town on the ugly side of Houston. If you didn't grow up here or work here, why would you want to live here? It stinks when the north wind blows and it floods when it rains. That is what is really "goofy" about the tourism idea. "Undesirables"....gi ve me a break! The last time I heard that term used to desribe other people I was watching a documentary about Nazi Germany during WWII. |

Tourists coming here could at least find something interesting to do. They can watch Center become an impassable river after an eight inch rain.

There is a Park and Ride in the Woodlands, River Oaks , Clear Lake etc. This is 2008. This city needs to move into the 21st century and get rid of some of the old ways of thinking if we are to ever move forward. Go to DC or New York. Mass transiet is the future.Read more about Metro, Go ride the train from Fannin to Herman Park or the Mueseum Districtor Minute Maid Park. Quite nice way to travel. Imagine a sleek train moving up and down Hwy 225 and not having to worry about an being hit by a big truck with bald tires hauling a container out of Bayport at 80 miles an hour by a person with no insurance or drivers license and cannot speak English.I rode the train to jury duty recently and it was a great experience. Build it , they will come. All we build are strip malls and motels, magnets and plastic deer.

Public transportation here would be a good idea in my opinion. I beleive the problem is funding. I beleive Houston Metro is funded primarily by a percentage of their sales tax. For Deer Park to afford it, our sales tax may have to be 25%. Deer Park seems to small in population for the funding.

Gee deafsmith, I really struck a nerve with you. Calm down. We all have a right to our opinion and I thought that was what this forum was about. If you want metro, fine. I do not and that is my opinion. I really don't give a rat's ass if you agree with me or not......and the princess crap is uncalled for. Just because I don't want riff-raff in our city, doesn't mean I am high and mighty. I am a middle-class citizen who cares about this city. I don't think "trash" is already here........what do you mean by trash? I have lived here a long time and excuse me if I don't want Center Street looking like downtown Houston with metro stops all up and down it...... Again, it is only my opinion and I have a right to it. You must be a metro bus driver.....sorry to have offended you.......And by the way, I don't think "undesirables" can afford or even have the desire to play golf, so your reference to that and the golf coarse doesn't hold water..... I consider "undesirables" as drug addicts - drug pushers - prostitutes - thugs, etc..... and they come in all shapes, sizes, and colors my dear.... Why you thought I was being racist is beyond me. The thought of color never entered my mind when I said "undesirables"...... .... |
Metro in DP that's funny. This town is so small they would have to turn around in a hotel parking lot to go back the other direction plus we have used up alomost every square inch of land to make a park and ride. Most of the people living here work for these chemical plants right down the road, or in LaPorte and Pasadena. As far as I know they don't have metro running up and down their streets or any park and rides. If I could I be looking for a nice piece of land somewhere quiet and less poluted. The money is here though. I'd rather be here than Houston, Pasadena or Clear Lake.. we do have it good here and we know it. We are not all white here we have blacks, mexicans, asians, people from the middle east. Open your eyes and meet your neighbors. Shell is not the only reason we have the amnetities it's because of all our hard working tax money. Without no people there would be no DP. |

Thank you wow.........I was beginning to think perhaps I was in some way wrong about metro or should feel guilty about not wanting it here. I would not have a problem with them having a location on 225 maybe around Battleground Road like they do over on Fuqua....Maybe that would bring the tourists to San Jacinto Monument..... Is that technically in the city of DP? I wonder about Monument Inn restaurant......probably too far down by water to be considered DP.....I do enjoy their food...... Not on this topic, just thought I'd share my opinion about their food. You were funny in your description with them (metro) on Center st. turning around in the hotel parking lots........had a good laugh with that one!!!!!! |

No problem.
