The lieutenant governor could serve a maximum of three years in prison plus possible restitution payments if she is found guilty.

3 years?? This lady killed someone and she MAY get a maximum of 3 years?

How is that justice?

How about throwing in a "tampering with evidence" charge since she left in her vehicle which was involved with the death of Espinosa?

look at the message this sends to people... if you are out driving drunk and hit a pedestrian, leave him to die, go home, sober up, then admit to it the next day! That way you only get three years instead of the longer sentence you would get if charged with if you had been caught while still drunk.

Actually the message, I am getting is, if you are in a government position this will work for you. If you are the average working stiff, you would have been in lock-up until you could afford to bond out.

As hard as they are when you go through their area of the state, I think the judicial system should be just as hard on this person for being a govenor. Its a shame this is all society has to look up to from elected officials.

She is indian. Probably had too much garden deluxe. Was probably on her soveriegn rez and hit someone who is non-indian and not from that rez. Won't even go to trial. Surely it was his fault for walking in front of a speeding vehicle driven by another drunk indian.

another elected official in trouble with the law ,and I use in trouble loosely. What does this say for our community or state or our human race for that fact.It seems it's all true the high you get in standing in the government or what ever the greed the corruption the stink of it all comes out..I hold little hope for the human race to get anywhere we've had 5,000+ years to get it right and were still making the same mistakes.I'm sure we'll still be around for the great celestial weeny roast when the sun goes super nova...

She was probably too drunk to care that the man she hit was laying on the side of the road in pain and agony. Can't charge her with dwi if she didn't get caught right?

I think it is pretty sad that one it took so long for law enforcement officials to bring any type of charges against this Government Official. It is bad enough she is only being charged with a small fraction of a crime, lets not forget that an innocent person lost his life for her carelessness. I hope someday Government Officials will be treated like any other normal person! If this was me, i would probably already have been in jail for this crime.

Please note that Mrs. Diaz is a Pojoaque Pueblo tribal official, not a New Mexico government official. Had the latter been true, his wallet likely would have been emptied, as well. You know, a special road occupancy tax.

Yeah...She knows the investigator J.P. and alot of other political people. One thing for sure is it's also in the way the police report is written that gets these murderers the charges that are handed to them. She is in the habit of doing wrong and then having someone fix things for her.

For the magority of us...we go to jail right away.. get time, lose our families and still live in tribal hell! One set of rules for certain people and another set of rules for Lind Diaz and her close relatives. But I've learned to live by the rules made for me..I have no other choice. Or face being thrown out of the pueblo or disenrolled.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Virgo

Be careful you don't wind up doing someone else's work today, Virgo. There are all sorts of little tricks to persuade you to take pity on them, from pretending to be ill to making such a hash of everything that you can't bear to watch for a moment longer. Then you are likely to be asked to put in some overtime, at the expense of your social life. Grr.
