Concerned Citizens around Murphy Wants Summary Judgment Against the Murphy Oil Meraux Refinery.

A neighborhood association in St Bernard Parish filed documents today in federal court, claiming defendant Murphy Oil, U.S.A. is liable for violating the Clean Air Act and the neighborhood association of Concerned Citizens has standing to bring suit. Plaintiff seek judgment on liability and standing issues based on what they believe to be the undisputed facts of Murphy Oil's own admissions to regulators of violation of their air permits.

Concerned Citizens around Murphy (CCAM), represented by Tulane Environmental Law Clinic, initially filed the citizen's enforcement lawsuit late last year. According to court documents, Murphy Oil USA Inc admitted violating their air permit on at least twenty occasions. These violations occurred during preventable upsets and resulted in tons of toxic air releases into the Chalmette and Meraux neighborhoods.
