Maureen, the answer to your chain restaurant complaint is not more chains! Patronize you local, independent restaurants if what you're looking for is variety!

I agree about that. But, as far as Supermarkets Acme was never good. It was only a matter of time for them! |

I think in general the food at the independents tends to be healthier for you as well. It's fresher and not designed to be cooked by robots over a grill.

ACME went south when they moved from 4th St.(where the Senior Center was) to Trainer's Corner. I remember going in when I was a kid and you knew everyone, and they knew you (as my sister and I would get mad at our mom because she would stop and talk to everyone!)
Then when they moved across the street, I can say that I've only been there a hadful of times. I miss Cassel's Market that was where Reta's Ceramics is now. |

The story could have been written a little better by mentioned ACME is closing is last REMAINING store in the Lehigh Valley.
ACME had a store over near the AMC theater west of Allentown. I think it is now a Staples? |

One item I read in the article about Walmart denying that it wants to turn its current facility into a super Walmart is interesting. The rumor about this has been around for a few years, as I heard it from a former Walmart employee!
The article also said the nearest Acme is in Chalfont, but there is also one on Main St. in Lansdale between Squirrell Lane and Valley Forge Rd. I believe this is a bit closer. |

We tried the Mexican place in Emmaus on Friday night, and I must say the food was really good, it was fresh, didnt feel overdone like the mexican food at don pablos, very healthy, will be going back there soon |

I am still wondering why a drugstore has not moved into the old Weiss store at the Whitehall Mall. We need an independent drugstore type in Whitehall!!!Give us a CVS or Riteaid or Walgreens, anything.

There is also an ACME in Doylestown that still does very well from what I understand. |

Where will Wiley Coyote buy all of his stuff to support his futile schemes against the Roadrunner?

This is interesting. I have to say that when I visit Whitehall, I can't seem to find a pharmacy other than Hilbert's, which has limited hours. Isn't there a chain pharmacy other than your Wal-Mart?? After all, Whitehall is the Golden Strip of the Lehigh Valley. |

Yeah, Acme's extended way up into the Lehigh Valley and beyond. Quakertown's store is now the furthest north.
They are building one down the way in Berks, I think. |

Losing ACME is no loss. They need to build more upscale grocery stores like Wegmans. In my area our two closest stores is Weis (which is a joke) that has expired food on the shelf and the customer service is pathetic and we have Giant which is not much better than the Weis. We need better stores.

Acme was way overpriced when they were in our area. I work not too far from Doylestown, and have stopped in the Acme there a few times for lunch. They do a good business there. But considering that the cost of living is much higher there, the higher prices are more in line with what they should be for down there, but very expensive for the Lehigh Valley.

I found that Weis is the best store for me to shop at. Their prices are in line with everybody else, and they always seem to have enough checkouts open (unlike Giant or Walmart where you can finish reading all the trashy tabloids in the time you wait in line). Also Weis is American owned, which scores points in my book. Wegman's is of course good too, but not worth the drive from where I live. I'll make the trip to their Chinese bar a couple of times a year.
