Has any one else noticed the rise in car break ins, burglaries, domestics and bar fights since the new chief took over? And dont forget not only allowing drunk people to shoot guns at Friscos....but giving the perp a ride to Scott city instead of throwing them in jail!!!!!

Have you gone to the police station, pulled all the police reports for these types of crimes prior to our current chief, compiled those numbers, then pulled all the police reports for these types of crimes with our current chief, and compiled those numbers? If you did that, you would do one of two things...expose the flaws in Chaffee's Public Safety Department and bring them to the City Council's attention, or find out that you are incorrect. You also might want to consider how the current economy effects everyone's socioeconomic status. Crime rises in economic downturns. Just some things to think about.

So what are you saying "concerned"? That since we have Mr. Chambers people are going on crime sprees? And how would this be his fault? If anything, when we have car break ins and bike stealing, usually it's the same people doing it.

Did you look to find out if they had room for the Frisco's shooter in our local jail?

Also did you take into consideration that our population and number of local businesses has increased since then as well?

Before you go waving your finger around, I suggest you look into ALL of the facts.

So what you’re saying is that because you have hit some hard times it's ok to drink yourself stupid, fire off hand guns in crowded locations and damage and take things that don't belong to you. Sorry I have disagreed. Life can be pretty crappy and I feel for anyone who is struggling by I don't care what happens you can't act like an idiot and hope I have compassion for you because I will not. Now if you want work and make an effort to improve your situation I'll give everything I can.
You also might want to consider a mayor and some council members who threaten officer’s jobs and use political pressure to ensure that their family and friends are never charged with crimes even though they deserve charges and jail time. I don't need records to know what goes on. Get involved in a few council meetings and you will quickly see what the problem is.

Who ever said that it was ok to behave that way? It's never ok to break the law. But pointing the finger at Mr. Chambers for other peoples actions isn't justifiable.

Example: When students quit doing their homework and take up drugs do you blame the teachers or do you blame the students. Considering the students were the ones who gave up doing the right thing.

I do believe the council members should all be replaced, as should our mayor. There should be no special treatment of anyone in town. How can you clean up this place if everyone who is ruining it is let go? I do not blame Mr. Chambers entirely, but he has some fault on it as well. Letting anyone influence his actions is as wrong as "pulling the strings". Chaffee seems so backwards sometimes. I never would expect a family member to get me out of trouble, small towns have some disadvantages. Otherwise Mr. Chambers does an okay job.

I disagree..I never see Chambers out doing anything. He makes Jody do it all. Jody busted the Larrys theives, however the press release stated that Chambers solved the crime. Check how many DWI arrests have been made in the past year...NONE. Now how in the hell can the old officers write almost 100 in one year, and after Chambers....none. Sounds to me like drinking and driving is condoned in Chaffee.

Chambers never gets out of the office unless it's to drink coffee at Larrys. And to think that the council has approved two new vehicles....a patrol car for the guys, and a Tahoe for Chambers. Now why the hell do we need to spend that kind of money for a vehicle thats going to be used as a personal vehicle for him. Sounds about right, lets make the officers drive junk while our lazy chief gets a luxury ride. Yet another smart decision by our lovely city council!!!

I bet the SUV will have heated seats! Can you imagine that, nice and warm in the winter. Let's get real though. Chambers can claim credeit since Jody is under him. As for the DWI maybe the old cops busted enough that the rest are more careful of when the drive drunk. To top it all off you still have the council members pulling strings for family members/friends. How can you expect Chambers to do his job if you have people like that pulling the strings. Leave him alone to do his job and it might get done right. Besides that, the cops work hard, I see them driving around all the time, and they always seem to have someone pulled over.

Chambers is an ok guy as long as you obey the law. He does try to be fair but if you keep breaking the law then he's done trying to be fair. I have spoke with him before over an issue and think he's a good guy. Although the City Council does hold him by the balls. Everybody thinks Chambers has complete control over everything and thats not the case. Everything has to be approved by our City Council. That is a big reason we have a big turn over, they won't let the police do their job because council members want to protect their "family". I think the police are doing a fine job. I see them out all the time. You can never please everyone, somebody always HAS to complain!

I don't know about the crime rate but in a town the size of Chaffee i wouldn't say its high because of the new chief, I can tell you that I come to Chaffee 3 to 4 times a week and am no longer followed for no reason every night that I'm there.

Thats because they no longer are allowed to stop cars!!!!! Its funny I used to read about drug arrests all the time about a year ago. Now everything I read about is how Scott Co. is making all the drug arrestst in Chaffee. I believe one of the deputies name mentioned used to work for Chaffee until about a year ago....hmmmmmmm!!!

Two Chaffee men arrested on several drug charges
Friday, October 23, 2009
Southeast Missourian

David Turner

BENTON, Mo.-- Two Chaffee, Mo., men were arrested Wednesday night on a list of drug-related charges, according to a news release from the Scott County Sheriff's Department.

David Turner, 25, and Gene Summers, 30, were arrested after Deputy Rhonda Elder stopped them for a traffic violation. Elder and Deputy Chad Nixon searched the car the men were riding in and allegedly found items used to make methamphetamine and a glass jar containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine. Deputies also searched the suspects' homes and allegedly found marijuana, illegal prescription medication, other items used to make methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.

Turner was changed with manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine precursors with the intent to manufacture, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. Bond has been set at $50,000 cash.

Gene Summers

Summers has been charged with manufacturing of a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine precursors with the intent to manufacture, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, three counts of possession of a controlled substance (prescription pills), and felony possession of marijuana. Bond has been set at $50,000 cash.

As of Thursday evening both men were in the Scott County Jail.

I guess you need to listen to what goes on in your little town huh?????

Yeah...and that's not the only house on this street that has that crap. Trust me, our PD has guys patrolling every day for NARCO and doing what they can. They know what streets have what and who is doing it. But there are restrictions and procedures they have to follow in order to get things done. Just be patient. It will all come out in the wash.
