Police arrest 24 in roundup of drug dealers

I am so glad to see these arrests. As the economy keeps falling, more and more drugs get on the streets. These substances kill and destroy families and lives.

I've believed for years that we should take a page from the way the British handle drug addicts. They are considered a medical problem and get prescriptions filled and are under a doctor's care. By being able to get "clean" drugs at their local pharmacy or doctor, they are not endangered by street drugs which can often be "cut" with dangerous substances. It also takes away the criminal element when one doesn't have to buy drugs from criminals on the street. Without a criminal economy based on illegal drugs, we would have fewer drive-by shootings when these criminals protect their "territories." How would the gangs profit if they can't deal in drugs? When addicts can get their drugs by prescription at the local pharmacy, there would be no profit for the criminal dealers. Drug addicts, which are often considered the dregs and scum of society, are really sick people who have a medical problem. Under doctor's care they have a chance to recover or to at least survive and be productive members of society. The dealers are the criminals and are despicable scum of the earth, preying on sick people.
