In the summer of 1982, I was 18 years old and had just graduated high school. My favorite radio station, WLAV, was giving away tickets to see The Police and I was lucky enough to win a pair. It was only after picking them up that I realized how far away Charlevoix was! A friend and I made the 4-hour drive and were treated to one of the best concerts I've ever seen. I think the band Saxon played first, then it was the English Beat, and finally the Police. Our tickets were for the 'outer' area, but we managed to get into the fenced-in area and pushed our way up to the front. It was the 'Ghost in the Machine' tour and the Police were outstanding. I remember it took hours to get out of the parking lot, it was just one big traffic jam. We didn't get home til early the next morning. It's a show I'll never forget.

I saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers there in '81, great show! I've been trying to remember the name of the warm-up act but I am drawing a blank, all I can remember is one of the band members was bald.
BTW, I looked up the concert list history for TP&H for '81, they don't even show a concert at the Castle in '81. |
saw the Fixx, Moody Blues, and Beach Boys all one nite about 1984 |

I was at the castle to see ozzy in 1982 and Def Leppard with Krokus in 1983. The castle was definitly a magical place, I was sad to hear that it was sold, with no more shows.

It would be great to learn the concert dates, especially if someone knew who performed on the 3 July 1976. That night one of the "bouncers" from the concert drove his car into our house, because he was stoned out of his gourd and couldn't identify what planet he was on. I was too young to go to the earlier concerts (probably a good thing!) and a few of us at work were trying to recall who played when.

i seen def leppard, and krokus there in '83. gary moore was a no show. if you remember right, the tickets were sold out, and the show was cancelled until a later date that summer. it made the tickets worth gold. lol. i had six in the closed off area near the stage. whoever bought those four tickets for 600 bucks in the parking lot from me, thank you. peace and love from kzoo. RIP allison hart,(disc jockey from WLAV in grand rapids.)she kept us rocking!!!

hey I too am looking for a complete list. I don't have the years but this is a partial list of bands that I saw at the castle, I may be missing a few. I lived 17 miles from the site. Chicago (3x) three different lead singers terry kath, peter cetera, donnie hicks (I think), Moody Blues, The Hooters (warm up band for somebody but they were awesome), Bob Dylan, Bob Seger (2x), Jackson Browne, REO, The Cars, Tom Petty, Night Ranger, Seals and Crofts, Logins and Mesina, Kenny Logins, Marshall Tucker, Frankie Valli, Doobie Bothers, Beach Boys, Eddie Money, Cheap Trick, Bryan Adams, John Cougar (before Mellancamp), Orleans, Def Leppard, Heart, that is all I can think of right now.

Great memories, and yes, long drive from Southwest Lower Michigan. - In addition to many others already listed above, I also saw Aldo Nova and Blue Oyster on June 28, 82. After being completely trashed and then stuck in traffic for hours, on our way back from Loverboy in August, 83 there wasn't anyone on the road south of Traverse City and thought we were seeing ghosts in the sky....after 1/2 hour of thinking we drank or smoked too much, figured out was the Northern Lights. First Time I ever saw them, yup, great memories.

1985-06-15 Iron Maiden wsg Accept $11.50
1986-07-25 Stevie Nicks & Peter Frampton $16.00 1987-06-27 Ratt wsg Poison $15.50 Those are the three that I went to. I remember Frampton & Stevie started really late because of weather issues. I remember it being very foggy because of torrential rain earlier that day. It was supposed to start at 8pm, but I can't remember what time it actually started. |
