Full story: Journal-News

A recent poll says most Ohioans still prefer to keep the smoking ban for workplaces and restaurants, but a slim majority would let smoking resume in bars.

The ban should be overturned for the sake of freedom-- but as long as there are Right Wing Christian Do-Gooders who canniot mind their own business out there, it never will be. You see-- these A-wipes are entitled to all the freedome and you smokers are entitled to none ion their rarified and purified world of hypocricy.

You can bring a gun into a bar at the owners discretion but can't smoke a cigarrette. How dumb is that?

You are correct... The same theory should apply to both. Gun emit smoke too , after you discharge them.

Smoking should be limited to Alaska only. Then all the retarded moron smokers can all move up there and suck on their cancer sticks until they die.
So you think all smokers are retarded morons ? It is a choice and is none of your business. Enough on you moron.

The bar owners should be able to say if smoking is allowed or not. I am sure it has hurt their business. I smoke but stay at home now because I do not go to places I can not smoke.
All you hollier than thou non smokers are out numbered in the bar scene by smokers and you are not bringing in the customers to the bars and clubs with your crybaby, belly aching, non smoking attitudes.
Keep it as it is and many more people will close their places down for lack of customers. Maybe that makes all you non smokers happy.
If you want a cold one and smoke, you want a cig., too.
Stuff that in your hat and smoke it.

I would be more offended by some of the stinking perfume some women wear. Not all perfumes smell good.
Got to go get a cig. LOL

Yes you're much more likely to be hurt by Bubba if he thinks you're looking at his "old lady" in a bar then by any second hand smoke.

Tobacco is in the same food group as potato, tomato, cauliflower, green pepper, chili’s, egg-plant and other foods. They ALL contain nicotine. You can buy it at any grocery, eat it in restaurants and school cafeterias.

State smoking bans, built in the public view on a like or dislike, are brought to us by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation with grants to the American Cancer Society (the middle man that profits). Grants are also given for research to FIT their agenda, that being nice for money hungry research centers and people who have found their way to ‘free’ money in exchange for ‘a service for the agenda’. The foundation was a start up by a past owner of Johnson and Johnson. J&J currently owns at 250 OTHER pharmaceutical companies while the foundation OWNS multi truckloads of J&J stock. Guess who makes the no-smoke products.

Never mind that independent (non-agenda) research shows that smokers have less Alzheimer’s, Dementia and other health issues. Never mind that smokers actually are not sickly as widely promoted and that smokers numbers are low at 3% for lung cancer. Never mind that tobacco is in research as a cure for cancer and looking very hopeful. Never mind that they could make a fortune owning nicotine for a variety of health issues it helps and currently are with their sales of nicotine (no-smoke products). A giant corporation has an agenda and we are the victims of the scam.

NO business was ever forced to allow smoking. It was ALWAYS the business owner choice and the choice of the customer to enter or not. Now there is no choice and many businesses, including the mom and pops have and are closing due to the smoking bans. The no-smoke groups say ‘level playing field’– so should we force Italian cuisine in Chinese Restaurants for a ‘level playing field’ or sell pizza in a shoe store? Ask yourself this: If businesses were losing money allowing smoking, do you think they would have allowed it? It is not a coincidence that when the bans swept the USA, jobs were lost. You can’t blame all economic woes on the mortgage mess but you CAN blame smoking bans for people not able to pay their mortgage!

Oh, and if you have wondered who might make weight loss products and OWN bariatric surgery centers (Ethicon Endo), you might want to take a look at J&J who is behind the obese issue.

Follow the money and learn a lot, including who is behind the national health insurance where at 660,000 organizations and foundations can have access (their eyes and noses) INTO your medical records without your permission or financial compensation!

Further, the RWJF also pays "fellows" (8 per year) to place with members of Congress, Congressional Committees (even Michelle Obama) and they write POLICIES. The RWJF pays them up to $165,000 a year and give them to Congress to use for FREE (nothing like internal spies and mouth pieces). Isn't that ILLEGAL? They write POLICIES! Is this the United States Government, or is it J&J’s government? I'm beginning to wonder.

Beware if they ever get into the razor blade and wig businesses!

A closed business pays no taxes. An empty bar not only does not generate revenue for the business owner, it generates no taxes that are so needed to pay for state services.

Maybe everyone needs to be a little more pragmatic here. Tobacco is a legal product and government will not ban its' sale or use. No one is forced to enter or work in a place that chooses to allow smoking. Bars would be allowed to permit smoking, not forced to allow smoking. There is a difference.

Non smokers want state services too and will be asked to make up the lost revenue one way or another. Why not just stay out of the places that allow smoking and let them pay the taxes so soda pop and snacks don't have to be taxed as "sin" foods?

Your post and History Buff's post make too much sense and therefore will be ridiculed and ignored. The tobacco nazi's will still foam at the mouth about their "lack of choice," or "threat to their health." We've all seen it on the news... non-smokers dragged by the heels into establishments that once permitted smoking... making these poor "victims" breathe second-hand smoke. The horror! The persecution!

You wanted a "smoke-free" Ohio and you got it. Now you can make up the loss revenues from more and more people traveling to Kentucky or West Virginia to get their tobacco products, as well as the loss in taxes from bars that had to layoff workers or close.

Sometimes it just s-u-c-k-s when you win huh?

As for the poster who "blamed" this on far-right religious whacko's.. you may want to aim your blame more to the left. In several issues that encroach upon personal freedom, their power has been the one at fault.

i say if you cant puff on a stick. you should just split to an oxygen bar, dont be a gayway and act like youre all cool cos you dont smoke.

if you dont puff cigs you puff pole or dip. either way you dont belong in a bar near me. i would like to just layout one of those high and mighty self righteous 'i dont smoke' douch bigalows.

ok, so you dont smoke, big damn deal broheem, youre not supposed to. now say that you could live with out oxygen and then do that, now thats a reason to write home about. think about it, smoking is youre choice, breathing isnt. stop breathing and then you have a cool ass story to tell word?

ok, also a lil smoke with your liver murderous alcoholic beverages isnt going to hurt you, kinda like lets say..... your Caribou Lou, my whiskey str8, and my super delish cancer tube probablly menthol if you dislike those the best....

ok so in theory, everything should be cool, you got your drink, i got mine, i got a fckin newpowt hanging off my lip like im imitating Borat Osama. so we are good, this is the part where you fck up evry1.

youre gonna tell me you dont like smoke? WTF do i care dilrod, leave the damn bar then you suck anyhow and its likely that youre not wanted there sho just shut up foo and get on my horse.

I have just watched my mother die of lung cancer and yes she was a smoker. With her dying breath she smoked. I personnaly, don't but don't condemn those who do smoke but I would rather not frequent a place that allows smoking simply because it stinks! My mother cleaned constantly but her house still reeked of that stale odor of cigarette smoke! And what a horrible way to die! Gasping for air that can't make it to your lungs because of the tumors from the cancer! With all the warnings against smoking I honestly don't understand why anyone would start!

It should be up to the owner of the bar provided they post a sign, easily read by all before they get inside, that this is a SMOKING ESTABLISHMENT.

If you don't smoke and want to go someplace else, then open a no-smoking bar next door. Let the free market decide.

It should be up to the bar owners. Many businesses have closed down. None smokers cry and bellyache about it while they wear stinky perfumes and do not even bathe.
I would rather be seated next to a smoker than a stinky person with no manners.
Some of you non-smokers are idiots for thinking you are better than us smokers. You are not.
You also are not the majority on this issue.

Here's what The Macho Man thinks. The Macho Man thinks a bar/restaurant is a privately owned business on private property. So it should be up to the owner of what can and cant be done inside. I personally dont smoke (cigarettes.. muahaha) but that doesnt mean i think the owner should have to make rules based on my beliefs/choices. If the owner is ok, then let people smoke. I just think they choose not to let people smoke because realistically they will get more business. Because i know as for me (The Macho Man), If i could choose between a grill that had cigarette smoke in the air compared to no smoke.. id choose the one with no smoke. (let's be honest.. the vents dont really do squat). So I'd prefer one that doesnt allow smoking.. but that doesnt mean they should all make that rule because The Macho Man thinks that way. They should have the freedom to set rules as they see. So I dont think this is about peoples freedom to smoke.. you can smoke anywhere outside you want.. I think its about the business owners rights. And i think they should have the right to set the rules as they see fit.

Daily Horoscope for June 1

Taurus

Some people are full of talk today and the trouble is that they don't know when to shut up. Who needs all the trivial details? Retro Venus is favoured in Gemini, so financial matters may resurface, and you may be inclined to change your point of view. Think long term, especially if you are tempted to form an important liaison, or partnership.
