Clearly, money will buy positions under John Kasich. As the article states, Thomas W. Gunlock was appointed to the Ohio Board of Education by Taft but then was voted out of that office by the citizens of Ohio. What the article doesn't tell us is that he works for RG Properties, a Dayton area real estate firm whose officers, most of them related to Gunlock (and with the surname of Gunlock) have been huge contributors to Republican candidates, and the Ohio Republican Party, over the last several years. This includes a $10,000 contribution to the Ohio Republican Party in 2010 by Randall Gunlock of RG Properties.
C. Todd Jones of New Albany, another Kasich appointment to the Board, is another contributor to Republicans, and we can all expect more of this "pay to play" atmosphere, which was a hallmark of the Taft administration, under John Kasich.
It's a sad state of affairs for Ohio's middle class citizens, who simply want their voice heard, but will undoubtedly be drowned out by the wealthiest Ohioans, the only ones who have Kasich's ear.
Americans often contribute to the political party of their choosing. Are you under the impression that Strickland or Obama appointed only those individuals who specifically did NOT contribute to their campaigns or to those of the ODP/DNC?

Of course not, but the "pay-to-play" conditions were FAR more prevelant under Taft than they were under Strickland; and the early indications from Kasich are that he will follow the path that Taft took in this regard. I base the claim about Kasich on the fact that he convinced the Ohio Senate to reject 78 of Strickland's last appointees to Boards and Commissions for no apparent reason - the first time in Ohio history that the outgoing governor had his appointees rejected en masse. These were not "last-minute" appointees by Strickland, either. They were, for the most part, appointees to positions whose terms became open in the last months of 2010, and were filled by Strickland in a timely fashion.

I am actually a fiscally conservative and socially conservative individual, who generally votes Republican. With the exception of his stance on gambling at Ohio's race tracks, I didn't think Strickland did that bad of a job (he submitted two balanced budgets, including one that was approved unanimously by the Ohio legislature). But Kasich is perhaps the most arrogant politician in America. He needs to be reminded that more people voted against him than voted for him (he only got 49% of the vote)- he talks like he has some sort of a "mandate". Actually, he simply rode the anti-incumbent wave of 2010 into office.

The governor had 351 appointees pending before the Senate. Lawmakers voted 28-0 to approve 251 nominees, and 22 were allowed to keep their seats without objection. I'd say Strickland did pretty well with a GOP-controlled Senate. Further, more than half the rejected names were submitted to Senators after Strickland lost the Nov. 2 election to Kasich.

Both parties should end this ridiculous practice of preserving posts for their disenfranchised colleagues.

Interesting, however, one vital responsibility of leadership is aligning your team to a common purpose.
If the man is a leader, he should be able to do that but if he is not, the wrong person has been put in a postion of responsibility. Good leaders can manage diverse groups and get outstanding results.

The manner in which the State of Ohio has been funding schools, was deemed unconstitutional by the Ohio Supreme Court. Nothing has changed since that ruling. Using property taxes as a benchmark is and was wrong... so when is it going to change. The "people" have spoken and vote down levies for more property TAXES CONSTANTLY.!!! It can't go on like this.

I figured my property taxes this week and they've increased outrageously with the majority designated for the schools. Then the schools wonder why taxpayers are angry. No more levies. NO.

RB--you seem to be willing to set up quite a smoke screen to avoid the reality that we have a Governor who seems not to know anyone who is not white that he considers to be qualified for any job he has available. So yes, the image of that elephant is clearly one that I see. The question is, why are you so loath to admit it?

Perhaps you need to be reminded that Taft not only increased the number of Gubernatorial appointees to the school board, but also made an eleventh hour round of appointments, which not only ensured some colleagues (such as Ann Womer-Benjamin, who formerly served as his head of the Ohio Deparment of Insurance) had jobs, but also maintained a majority of creationism supporters on the Board.

Did you ever think for a minute that you are race-obsessed? I understand you leftists prefer to couch your race-baiting in the newly-coined PC term, "diversity," but we all know what it means.

Frankly, I don't see minority Ohioans marching in the streets against Governor Kasich's appointments. The race card is worn out.

The facts are John Kasich was elected to turn Ohio around and he has appointed those he deems best equipped for the job. Let's wait and see if they are up to it before we pass judgment, specifically based on race --- of all reasons.

Get a grip.

Race Baiters: You are wrong when you state that "John Kasich was elected to turn Ohio around". Again, more people voted against him than voted for him. John Kasich was elected because he was not the incumbent, and 2010 was all about throwing out the incumbents. Perhaps 49% of the people believe that Ohio needs turned around, but 51% didn't think that Kasich was the one to do it.

The challenges that Ohio has faced in the last 3 years are not unique to Ohio, nor were they caused (or, in my belief, compounded) by Strickland's policies. The nation has been in a deep recession (arguably, caused by out-of-control spending by Republicans), and Ohio, like most states in the rust belt, has been hit harder than many other states during this time. But when the nation emerges from the recession Ohio will as well - regardless of Kasich's policies.

Blah, blah...Kasich didn't really win...blah, blah, blah.

Eventually you must accept that John Kasich is Ohio's duly elected governor.

Perhaps you are a visual learner. This chart may help your understanding of the U.S.' current economic emergency:

Let me make this perfectly plain because I think it is being subverted. There is nothing wrong with hiring the best person for the job.
When the job always goes to a white person, and most of those are male, I begin to suspect that the hiring is not based on some objective standard of the best person for the job.
It's because the best people for most jobs are white males. Women need to stay home and take care of their families.

Daily Horoscope for June 1

Leo

Try not to over-commit yourself at this time. If you can establish a few limits you will be really pleased with the end results. You're flying high -- which is great, but try not to get ahead of yourself and lose the advantage of the good opportunities surrounding you. Why not relax at home tonight? Have a few friends over for some pleasant banter.
