France gives highest honor to a true hero of freedom

Bill Coleman is my Grandfather. He's lived a life as a hero to his family. We all love him more than I have words to express. I believe he is a man who truly appreciates every new day. We were studing WWII when I was in Howard Junior High School, and my teacher encouraged me to ask my grandfather about the war. I had never asked him because it was not polite. I went to him and asked "Grandpa what was it like to be in World War II?" He produced from his pocket a small piece of wood that was worn smooth as though it had been rubbed between his fingers for ages. He said "this piece of wood is exactly one inch. I know this because I measured and cut it when I had an opportunity in the prison camp. This is what I used to measure out bread in equal portions whenever we were given some." He then asked me if I needed to know anything more about World War II. I did not. He lived. We are a large fortunate family who loves the man who gave us life. Thank you Grandpa.

The term " The Greatest Generation" does not ever come close to describing what Mr. Coleman and his peers did for this country to preserve our freedom. God Bless them all.
