First off let me say I hope this child recovers fully and I'm so very sorry to hear this happened. I grew up in Celina many years ago, I still remember the dog that ran loose around town and stayed at the funeral home, it was not uncommon to see a dog fight in town back in the late 70's. People please do your research before you go public with information. The only reason your hear more about Pitbull attacks is they usually do more damage. Many other breeds of dogs bite and attack people with much more frequency. Pitbulls and other large breeds require another level of responsibility buy the owner. I've owned pitbulls and raised and bred American Bulldogs for over 20 years and never had an issue with my kids or visiting kids. How the dogs are raised does play a large role in the dog’s behavior.
As has been stated the answer is not to ban the pitbull but enforce laws already on the books with irresponsible owners and people that break the laws. Not long ago a Daschund chewed the toes off of an infant lying in the floor with the parents’ home. Do we ban the daschund? What happened is very sad and tragic why not rally around the child and family and support them. To me Celina/Clay County was a great place to grow up with great people. So rally around this child raise funds to assist with medical cost the family is accruing. Help this have a positive outcome.

I'm really confused, all you pitbull owners are talking about is you dog,not a one of you are showing any concern for this child,I'm not saying your dog is bad,but like you have more concern about your dog than this childs life, what kind of people are you.....

pit bulls, got the name from the dog fights in PITS, they have been bred for hundreds of yrs. soley for their viciousness, and aggressiveness. Breeders pick puppies from a litter that are agressive and breed with other agressive dogs. People wake up! They aren't just a status symbol, it's in their genetic makeup for fighting. Does this make people feel puffed up and big and tough? EVERY person with a pitbull without fail says " We've had him/her since they were a puppie, and they've never bit anyone" and these remarks in front of a hospital, or God forbid in front of a morgue. BUT THEY ALL SAY THE SAME THING AND ARE ALL SHOCKED THIER DOG DID THIS!!!@!!! MY PRAYERS ARE FOR THE VICTUMS AND FUTURE VICTUMS... PLEASE PEOPLE WAKE UP!
My dog has only bit four people but all four of them needed to be bit.

If butch was to bite a kid or any one else who did not deserve to be bit I would take care of him myself. A dog that bites for no reason does not deserve to live. I believe people should know their dogs better as to not allow this to happen.Although some dogs are smarter than their masters.

Well I personally have owned several pitbull dogs n only one has ever bit something n that was another German Shepard trying to attack my friend walking down a public street heading to my house n my female pitbull heard my friend girlfriend (who didn't know she was 5 weeks pregnant at the time)scream cause the dog was showing aggressive signs by barking n growling getting really close to em,she ran up n defended my friends by attacking that dog.I have a American Bulldog Bully right now n she is around my 3 boys all the time and they play with her all the time but I dare u to try n hurt em cause whoa unto you is all I can say. It's not the breed of a dog it's all about how u train em just like any other breed of a dog.I wish the poor kid a speedy recovery n hope he us alright. The owner of that dog should not be allowed to have dogs cause if u own a dog n they bite ur kids then obviously u ain't did ur job training the dog!!!JS

My own pit I raised inside my home with my children bit my 13 year olds finger off. Jaws locked down and then tried to bite me. I'm sorry but I'm no longer believe a pit I don't care how you raise them is a good dog to own. They are known to pack up and can take cattle down. If I known then it cost my daughter a finger is never gotten one. I've had many dogs growing up and a lab now. My heart out to that child and family. My pit had lots of love food and vet care. It came at us for no reason. I was scared to death and it took a long time before I would even trust a lab. But at Lear my labs jaws can't lock down on me. Shake her head and hear my own flesh being torn. I went from pit bull lover to seeing that a breed of dog built to bite and be agressive can turn and its nasty. My husband had to defend us with a chair and that dog still kept charging us.
