Ruling hurts some unmarried same-sex partners

Full story: gazetteonline.com

The city of Iowa City and Johnson County began to address an uncommon, and possibly unique, situation after the Iowa Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage last April. They are working on ways to drop extended health insurance benefits to domestic partners of gay employees who are not married.

These extended benefits ( I used them) were set up when we COULD NOT marry. They threw a lifeline to committed same-sex families. In Iowa, they are no longer needed. It's only fair to pull them now, unless you offer them to all unmarried couples.

It is only fair....same-sex benefits were only a stop-gap measure until marriage was allowed. If you want the benefits get married.

If a gay couple is allowed to marry in a state, and they want benefits afforded married couples, then by all means, they should marry. Isn't that what we're fighting for?

I don't think the government should be in the business of granting rights, benefits and priveleges to couples who are just shacking up and have no intention of entering a formal committed relationship, regardless of their sexual orientation.

IF a state is offering Marriage Equality w/benefits to ALL....then by ALL means...IF you want the benefits - you have to marry - thats fair enough..to ALL peoples.

Daily Horoscope for January 1

Cancer

Happy New Year, Cancer! Are you ready to put those resolutions into place? Not quite?! Crustaceans are never quite sure just how much they can get away with and where to draw the line. You have a flair for the dramatic and when you're the narrator, your exploits become deeds that would make a knight proud. Your fans know you're a hero, whatever history might prove. Audacity impresses most people but if you go to far you could cause offence.
