This has nothing to do with money or getting anyone out of prison. Kyle is in prison for life, so we can take that completely out of this discussion. Suing the drug company for punitive damanges is about educating the general public and forcing the FDA and big pharma companies about properly disclosing the adverse affects of their drugs. Until this all happened, I was as uneducated (and uninterested) in the adverse affects of SSRI's as anyone else. But WOW...the amount of information and number of people who have been adversely affected by these drugs is astronomical! The extent of how duped we are as a society about these drugs is disturbing. The Pharma companies spend billions of dollars targeting our children. The pharma companies fund FDA studies, fund the government. It is all so corrupt. The FDA is supposed to be our watchdog - they are aware of the dangers of SSRI's but continue to approve these drugs because they receive funding from them. Why have other countries banned certain SSRI's, but the US has not? I can't express enough how devestated we all are over the loss of those two vibrant lives. Admittingly, it's pretty difficult to go from having a wonderful upbringing, and happy family to complete and utter tragedy, and to feel the hatred of everyone around you. I know what we will endure for the rest of our lives, pales in comparison to your loss. In spite of what the verdict is, I just cannot watch other lives be ruined by these drugs, who affect so many others. These drugs continue to destroy lives. I just want to expose the danger -whether people want to believe it played a part in this tradgedy or not doesn't really matter any more. I just hope people educate themselves before putting their kids on these horrible drugs.

its like this...these girls were my cousins. katrina was actually more like a sister. its been a horrible and tragic thing for our family to deal with. there is absolutely NO PROOF at all that kyle was taking his zoloft...him saying he took it, is all that there is. that doesn't mean crap. let these girls rest in peace and leave this all alone. he has been convicted and will spend the rest of his life in prison. he is being sentenced on nov. 15th. lets quit talking about what may have made him do it...i sat through the whole trial, and i know what made him do it; himself. no drugs, no alcohol, just the hardcore feeling of killing someone.
please let it rest out of respect for these girls and our family.

KM's attorney filed for a motion for a new trial on Nov. 15. On Nov. 5 the sentencing was reset to Nov. 21 @ 10.
I sincerely hope this can end soon. There's been too much heartache.

please let it rest out of respect for these girls and our family. You're right in saying that there is no evidence that he was taking his meds. Maybe there wasn't. I didn't keep up enough to keep track if they looked into his blood or anything like that, though I'm sure that was brought to the table at some point. However, simply knowing that he is in jail for the rest of his life would be good, if he was the only one taking this potentially-psychosis-causing medication. But there are loads more people. I'm not saying the meds made him do it. His chance to prove that has come and gone. But how many people will have to drive off of the side of the road before you start looking for potholes, you know?

"CEDAR RAPIDS — Kyle A. Marin, convicted Nov. 1 of murdering two women at an apartment near Kirkwood Community College in 2006, is appealing his case to the Iowa Supreme Court.
Marin, 21, stabbed and beat Molly Edmondson and Katrina Hill to death in Edmondson's apartment bathroom on April 23, 2006. Most of the facts in the killings were not in dispute at trial, but Marin's attorney argued that mental illness, medication and alcohol caused him to not be able to make decisions.
He was nonetheless convicted on two counts of first-degree murder and on Nov. 21 given consecutive life sentences without parole. He filed his appeal Dec. 3 in Linn County."

If only the adult criminal system were set up to try to legitimately help those who need it rather than warehouse them for a period of time, maybe Kyle would have gotten the mental health treatment needed and this never would have happened. While one might throw out cliches such as "Hindsight is 20/20", I can tell you that Kyle was just an average kid with problems. There was absolutely no way to predict this outcome. It breaks my heart. He had such potential. Just shows you how random and screwed up life can be. He is now going to have to live with this on his conscience for the rest of his life. Clearly, he feels remorse for his actions or he would not have accepted responsibility by turning himself in and confessing before anyone even knew to look for him. We can only speculate on what could possibly have caused him to completely go over the edge. That's what's scariest, not knowing how to prevent this type of thing.
While I never knew the victims, it appears they were beautiful vibrant people who made lasting impressions on those they loved and who loved them. This really is a horrible tragedy that will affect the lives of those left behind forever.

I wish this was the case but if you look closly at some of the coments posted by people that did know him. You can tell starting with his stupid subcultural iconic nickname, that they were instead both aware of his prior violent history and admired it. This is unfortunatly the parlince of our times, and symptamatic of gangster rap and the likes that simple advocate and breed hate into our young adults.I wish for once the blam would lay entirly on the perpatrator were it belongs.Drug induced or not this young man had a choice , he chose violence again. He through a child like fit, that took children from someonelse forevor.I only wish he would have done this in Texas, or somewere were justice would actualy be carried out instead of Iowa wher it is completly simple corupt. As someone previously involved with law enforcement in your state I can tell you the truth.
