No more raids coming, consul general told.

No more raids coming, consul general told.

He said he’s been assured by Scott Baniecke, field director for Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Minneapolis, that there will be no more raids in the immediate future. Lopez said he’s going to tell that to the people holed up in the church, afraid to go home.

“My message is that they can go back to their (local) homes,” he said.

He said he’s making sure everyone knows they can get the proper paperwork to go back to Guatemala, if they so choose.

“We can accomplish a lot today,” he said.

The Guat Consulate should be counseling his "compadres" into doing the right thing, getting their affairs in order, selling their assets and buying tickets back to Guatemala BEFORE they are forcibly deported. Much less "familial" disruption that way.
I doubt that ICE would tell the Guat Consulate that they aren't going to be enforcing federal immigration law anymore. ICE should've gone into that church and done their job. No more sanctuary for lawbreakers. ICE should also have arrested the employers and owners at Agriprocessing. THere are over 14 million unemployed Americans who are actively seeking employment and that number is getting higher every day. There are thousands of young, high-school educated vets returning home and they are having a hard time finding employment. Patriotic, honest, American businesses should be actively recruiting American workers and vets.
Report all suspected illegal aliens AND their EMPLOYERS to 1-866-DHS-2ICE...Save your community, your nation. Hire a vet.

This was the best answer in the local paper.

Anyone know the cost from IA to Guatemala? Why didn't the consul general give them funds to leave, instead of telling them how to apply for documents to do so? As far as I'm concerned he can go too!

Why would raids stop? This is ridiculous. What is wrong with enforcing the law. Mexico wouldn't put up with illegals for one minute. Mexican immigrants? How about illegal aliens that need to be deported? Immigrants are and always will be welcome. These alien workers have been allowed in order to break the back of labor in this country. It is as simple as that. There is always a struggle in ensure that people get fair wages and safe working conditions. We are losing ground because the government and big business are sitting back and laughing while we argue about homosexual marriage and abortion. While these issues are important, we should be focusing on maintaining a decent standard of living, birth control, and not allowing this country to slide into a third world cesspool. I don't care if Mexicans assimilate or not. If they are not here legally, there is a nefarious reason it has been allowed. It has to stop.

Very interesting. Thank you. If everyone knew, there would be a revolution. No wonder Ron Paul was hidden by the media.

He said he’s making sure everyone knows they can get the proper paperwork to go back to Guatemala, if they so choose.

“We can accomplish a lot today,” he said.

Well this statement tells it all.
If he was assured there would be no more raids...then why make an attempt to help them leave?
If there will be no more raids...there will be nothing to fear, right?
I think ICE is using psychology on them.
I think their strategy is to get them out of that church...then nab them. LMAO! Go ICE!

Mo. lawmakers approve anti-illegal immigrant bill
Published: 5/16/08, 11:05 PM EDT
By CHRIS BLANK
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo (AP)- Missouri lawmakers gave final approval Friday to a bill that adds new restrictions and requirements for illegal immigrants, the cities in which they live and the businesses that employ them.

The bill would require people to prove they are U.S. citizens or are legally in the country when applying for food stamps, housing and other public benefits; penalize businesses that knowingly hire illegal immigrants; order the Missouri State Highway Patrol to seek special federal immigration training; and bar Missouri cities from refusing to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.

The measure also allows fines of up to $50,000 for some employers who misclassify their workers as "contractors" instead of "employees." It would apply to businesses with at least five employees performing public works. When workers are contractors, employers don't have to pay withholding taxes, provide other benefits or take responsibility if the worker is an illegal immigrant.

The House approved the measure 136-12 on Friday; the Senate followed suit with a 27-7 vote, sending it to Republican Gov. Matt Blunt, who has made passing the legislation a priority.

He said Friday that lawmakers had passed "an extraordinarily strong bill."

They all use illegals for jobs the government officials wouldn't dream of doing themselves? The campaign contributions Pro-Amnesty groups donate? The money lobbyist give them? The trips the lobbyists give them? They're afraid of their own shadow? Their business ties to Mexico? Their relatives' business ties to Mexico? Their thought that if they don't bend over backwards, they one day may not be able to bend over? Who'll interpret for them? They'd have to apologize to the ACLU, US Chamber of Commerce, Government of Mexico. US businesses with manufacturing in Mexico would have to pay a living wage to the MX employees? They'd have to increase their food budget at home? The fence on our southern border would have to be finished? These are just a few I can come up with.

Would everyone that posts to this site and opposes amnesty for the 12-20 million illegal aliens please email or call their Senators and Congressman. I did. This was attached to the bill to fund the Iraq war!

"Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) introduced S. 340, the AgJOBS Act. This
legislation modifies the H-2A visa program and requires the Secretary of
Homeland Security to grant blue cards to unauthorized workers who performed
agricultural work in the United States for at least 150 work days over the
previous two years. With a blue card, a worker will have temporary residence
status. These blue card workers would be eligible for legal permanent
residence status after working in United States agriculture for a specified
time period. The bill has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee
where it awaits consideration."
