Trooper killed in Catskill crash

Everyone makes mistakes,Cop or not.He's gone,At least have some respect for his family at this difficult time.Stop arguing and talking crap to each other,Nothing gets accomplished that way,Have a heart.R.I.P...

Very True. It is a waste of life.. Nothing we ever type will bring that tropper back. We should still ask were was he going? why was he passing on Rt32? No lights No siren? what was he thinking? WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER DRIVER???? doesnt she have a family does she deserve a trip to the hospital thanks to this tropper. My heart goes out to the family of the tropper, However I feel more for the other driver... just driving along and BAM!!!!!! getting hit by the tropper. she has to live with this. He is gone we cant change that. what we can change is troppers driving on the cell phone speeding on the thruway, etc... just because they can. You are paid to UPHOLD the LAW. YOU SWORE to do that. Once again the other driver and your family my haesrt and prayers go out to you. the person they swore to protect....

Have a heart you say. What about the other driver. What if it was you... we are talking crap. Just bringing to light another side to think about. What if it was you driving or youe Mom or grandmother and a tropper gave you a one way ticket to the Hospital. Dont get me wrong it is a waste of life... But he was driving... Thank God the other driver wasnt killed.

Found the picture.. oh man everyone should look at that picture and see what his speeding and lack of thought while driving did. Not being negative. not at all. Just looking at the other side of this. Only he knows what happened and why he did it. was he wereing his seat beat? was he on his cellphone? was he typing on his patrol cars computer? I have seen it it all even local cops. Just look at that he will never come back his family morns his co workers morn.

It was horrific. I was shocked when I saw the pic.

I was in a school bus accident back in 1995 on Freehold flats and 1 kid died,And I almost did.I think it's just wrong that everyone is arguing and talking bad about the cop when nobody knows.As for the other driver I feel for them as well,Jyst b/c I didn't say anything about them.

Karin, I was just bringing to light the other side of the coin. I wasnt talking bad about the tropper just asking questions. Isnt this America? Can I ask questions? I feel bad about your accident 14yrs ago. But every accident has different circumstances. If you read my other comments you will see Im just asking questions. Now 14yrs ago did you hit the bus? did the bus hit you? Were you driving the bus? See both accidents I wasnt there. just asking questions. You can still feel bad about what happened and still ask questions. Thank You

some vehicles the speedo gets stuck at crash time. Say you were doing 40 mph, and crashed the speedo will show the needle at 40. It like freezes.

I completely agree. His recklessness could have killed the person driving the truck. His recklessness is causing his family pain and suffering. Troopers and cops alike need to stop thinking that they are above the law. The badge doesn't make them immune from anything. And, once again, even though his stupid actions caused this accident, he's being hailed as a hero. I'm not trying to be disrespectful, just real. Maybe other cops and troopers will take this as a wake up call. May he rest in peace.

Trooper Lane is a hero as he served our country and the people of NYS. That cannot be taken away from him. If he made a mistake that cost him his life it will be a learning experience and may change the rules of which of which law enforcement lives by. I agree that a police vehicle should not give officers the go ahead to speed, unless on a call.

While travelling at an excessive speed, without the siren and lights as required, this cop put civilians at risk.

Talk all you want about how he is a hero for serving in the military, it doesn't take away from the fact that he was a complete moron for this mistake that ended his life, and stained the life of the person he felt the need to pass in such an unsafe manner.

Trooper Lane did not intentionally kill anyone. On this Veterans Day I prefer to honor our soldiers not trash them for a mistake that he made. Timothy McVeigh was a killer. Intentionally killing innocent people. How can you even put the two in the same sentence. That was just wrong.

All I did was apply what you state makes a hero to Timothy McVeigh.

So maybe want is wrong here is what you think makes a hero. For instance I don't think the family of the innocent victem of this crash agree with you that he is a hero.

As a veteran, I can assure you I served with many, many heros. But also many who are vary distant from ever getting that label from me.

It was an accident. What I consider a hero and what you consider a hero is of no concern here. It is not in me to trash the life of a man who served our country and put his life on the line for the people of NY. I feel for his family and the other victim here. I suppose that is all that matters.

If the man was habitual loser I would have a different outlook but he wasnt.

OH thank You. I see your point and agree. SOME Law enforcers do think they are above the law. Some think they donot have to follow the LAWS THEY R SWORN TO UPHOLD. But there r some who r great people. We , the public , mostly see the ones who get in trouble. "when ur down everyone kicks u " But when u do right no one see's it. HERO or Not a HERO, Who knows but his family and friends are paying for his SPEEDING.....
