Cairo Town Planning Board don't know what they are doing

They are raising the town's taxes with their irresponsible behavior. They are only in it to serve their own needs, not the needs of the community. Where was the public hearing for chairman Peter Maasmann's project? It didn't happen. He had no oversight on his own project. They take care of themselves and their friends, and they give anyone they don't know a hard time. They don't want to see Cairo become a better place, they just don't want to see any change at all. Please let's get a planning board for this town that cares about Cairo.

I agree. These people on the planning board only want to help themselves and their friends. They will not allow Cairo to grow. We need people who truly care about the residents of Cairo Town.

I was "surfing" the internet and opened some photos of Cairo 2008. Oh my God, what has happened to Cairo? Buildings falling down. One building had plastic on the front. Who the h*** is in charge of the town to allow it to crumble?

Yeah, some of the newcomers in this area have good ideas, and the planning board just seems to want to keep the town stuck in the past. They voted against that community radio station being started out in Acra! This is just the sort of thing Cairo needs!

They voted it down becaues Slater's stink was not on it.

Unk Slater has done more for community organizations in Cairo then anyone else I can think of. It's a shame what the planning board has been doing. I just don't understand it. This place could really turn into something, but they just want to keep holding it back. Or they don't really care, they just want to keep scratching each others backs. Throw them all out next election!

We have to get Main Street Cairo up and running we have alot of history here.. We do not let new commerce come here...Who are we answering too? They pull these meetings at like in the afternoon when everyone is working.. thats Cairo..Look at the businesses that have closed up someone will buy up the town HMMMMM wonder who...not me.. paying too much taxes..Think I will apply for a non existent job... What Family do I need to join???? or collect SSI or SSD and work off the books..Cairo Main Street won't catch me there at night..not safe anymore..Do we not pay our Police force enough? If I am going to pay taxes I would pay for our safety..not new invented jobs for the Cairo Town Board Assessors office...Lets apply Free Health insurance I am in...

Yes, the Cairo planning board is just about who you know. The town doesn't seem to want to have any development. In fact, it is against the law! For eight years they haven't bothered to fix the sewers, so they can't have new businesses, houses, no new nothing! What sort of progress is that. The Planning Board is just there to retard the growth more. Vote them all out and vote in someone that will fix up this town that's falling apart. How many lawsuits do they have to lose before the Town of Cairo changes anything?

Is there a member of the Cairo planning board who attacked someone over a planning issue when they were 18, and went to jail? Is there a planning board member who routinely let's his father's own business get its planning board actions rubber-stamped without any oversight? Is there a Cairo planning board member without a conflict of interest? Is there a Cairo planning board member who will stand up and say, "Geesh, this board is nuts! We should be helping this town, not just our friends."

Lets direct questions to the board. Are you listening? I constantly see complaining I am also guilty of this but we need to ask these question at board meetings, record their answers. Hold to them.

I have been here for 9 years, have seen little positive in town (cairo ) Purling is forgotten , just a little welfare town. This area (cairo-roundtop-purling)is beautiful, sometimes when people are around too long they no longer see it. Just look out for themselves, not community . Run down unlivable homes on mountain ave. What a nice introduction to the hamlet.

Why wouldn't they want to fix the sewers? With all the shit in the Cairo planning board it seems like it would just be a big mess without working sewers.

they are pigs in the trough, nothing else matters

Since I have been a child I would spend my summers at Cairo. Still love to going there. The landscape of the mountains is truly beautiful. I'm sure many of you are accustomed to it and don't appreciate it anymore. However, I could never understand why the town never really improved. In fact, it has reached an all time low for appeal. Those who live there really need to get involved if they want to make Cairo beautiful again. Otherwise, there will be nothing left but a supermarket. Please, fix up the town! It's a beautiful area to live in.Just some thoughts from an outsider looking in.

They put that woman on the Cairo Planning Board now, but she doesn't come to the meetings, so it is still the good ol' boys running the town into the ground.

This group of people in the town need to be voted out. I remember how nice this place was to visit as a younger person, Now I live here.. Its horrable to see how the town is running down this place. We need young people on this town to build this community. Its not a vacation place of the 60s. Its time to bring in jobs and allow the people to work again

Great idea about having the young people run the board, but I see two problems. If you don't mind me sharing my opinion, then here goes... I'm sure most of the town people do not work locally. Of course, how could they? There are no local merchants in Cairo. So the demands of traveling, raising a family, and demanding hours might make it difficult to attract a lot of people. Maybe a few of you older, more experienced town folks could also run for board to help season the newbies and also contribute your experience and more of your time, which is something the young folks don't have much of at the moement. The combination of the two might work out great.

Tonight the chairman of the planning board and the town lawyer (the one who can't count past 59 at least two different times) said every action the Cairo town planning board has taken in the past seven years has been illegal and needs to be done over. That's fast! The sewers have been broken for eight years, and imagine what they are knee-deep in now.

I understand the new community radio station, WGXC, has recordings up of Cairo Town Board and Cairo Planning Board meetings for anyone to listen to at www.wgxc.org .

they have an order for the planning board but pope benoit just picks and chooses his favorites and puts them first up and puts them in special sessions, and is totally unfair to everyone and continues to get the town sued.

Cairo has become the laughingstock of Greene County. No one wants to attempt to do business in Cairo. The Planning Board will delay any attempts to start new businesses in Cairo, and the new ultra-regulatory, left-wing, regulate-it-to-death Planning law makes their slow-down job that much easier. The Cairo Planning Board will delay, and delay, and delay, and cost you all sorts of money, and wait until you go away.

No one wants to do business in Cairo. The town is dead.
