Translation of this corrido for those who don't speak spanish.
This is very similar to the previous translation. Maybe this clarifies the story a little bit. It is the typical mafia life. In mexico, these start off poor. They run into good fortune. Someone kills them for greed or for revenge (in this case, it was both). That someone tends to keep the money. Relatives are mourning and sad. Life goes on without them. Here it is verse by verse. It's a pretty good song. This is known as a NARCO-CORRIDO. Usually, corridos are written after someone dies and they tell the story of that person. Corridos tend to make martyrs of people that we would normally consider criminals. In Mexico and in many poor countries, these give people HOPE. Enjoy! Also, look into "El Inicio de Chuy y Mauricio" - this one talks about how they got into the mess outlined below - poverty, hard work and a desire to leave both. ********** Chuy and Mauricio boarded a Chrysler 300 in a state of happiness and content. How could they know that they would be taken off dead? They delivered 400 pounds of marijuana. What a play of destiny. Look how they were paid. They gave a ride to the enemy (a woman). And they were paid with bullet shots. In the back seat, death (same woman) was planning to keep the money and decided to assassinate them. Chuy was found in the passengers side (right side) and Mauricio in the drivers side (left side). Another tomb in San Ignacio and two families were crying. Two admirers of Canelos de Durango are missing (Chuy & Mauricio). In joking and drunkenness, Alvaro (a friend) has missed them. Chilar (like a chile patch) Ranch in Sinaloa, you will no longer see them. So play Vida Mafiosa (Mafia Life) Canelos de Durango (group). If in life we were happy. Let’s toast for the memories. |

El Inicio by El Potro de Sinaloa - This is part 1 of the previous corrido.

Here's what this one says in English for those who don't speak spanish (mas o menos).
Sinaloa state In the Chile Patch ranch Chuy and Mauricio were born Don't imagine it, it's the truth Between mountains and arroyos They planted and picked crops They were overwhelmed by poverty Suffering over and over The moon in the early morning would watch them walk The sun would come and go How it made them sweat To close out the day The rain would soak their sombreros, clothing and sandals The straps would have to break Walking in mud among the hills And the cold was more pronounced It looked like a blanket of stars That which the night illuminated Witnesses of Chuy y Mauricio Who regretfully had to leave Later on I saw them by Tijuana And also by Ensenada The Chile Patch Ranch finds itself sad Because they never returned Ajoya (a place in La Sierra Madre for drug trade) and El Platanar (The Banana Patch) La Cana (the cane) and all the ranches And the bridge of San Ignacio They have never again been seen They got to California They worked with Alvaro (a person) Destiny and one traitor Squashed their illusions/dreams There's a corrido that tells The details of this drama |

That's one of the problems - law enforcement going 'light' on these criminals. They should have the book thrown at them. Otherwise, the message to wannabe gangsters is, go ahead and do the crime,'cause you may not have to do the time. |

Corridos are nothing but songs about people's lives. Some involve the Narco. Some involve love. Some involve tragedy. They involve all kinds of things. Open up your mind a little Salinas. I recommend Dr. Dre, NWA, Tupac and the like as well. As gangsterish as all of this is, some have good music and good lyrics.
Or you can eat some grapes. Funny, isn't Salinas one of the places that is highly dependent on migrant workers from Mexico? |
||||
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck..it's a duck! Migrant workers are a different story than the drug runners. |
||||
|
Yep. What's your point? I think we are in agreement.
Songs about drug dealers or the little mermaid are not responsible for people's actions. Just like Ozzy Osbourne was not found guilty of teenage suicides because of the song Suicide Solution. This is no different. If we write a song that says shoot yourself and someone does, they need to be held accountable for their own actions. How's this different than voting Democrat or Republican? We created a mess and we should sleep in it. |

Speaking of Ducks, I hear Deming has the Duck races. Some people there don't like them. I'd like to stop by some day.
