We, the Russell County Taxpayers, with Purpose.
The purpose of this thread is simple: to hold local town & county governing bodies accountable and to provide a forum for unity when dealing with corrupt politics that threaten our civil liberties. This thread encourages non-partisan efforts to sustain our communities and encourages all Russell County taxpayers to be active in their community and become informed voters who are active in the local political process!

In that vein, what are your personal stories (anonymously if you wish)of coercive acts on yourself, family members, or friends by the Democratic stronghold in Russell County over the last several years? Corruption you've witnessed first hand?

This forum creates an opportunity to voice your opinions and let it fly on the crooked politicians in Russell County. Maybe some Independent/Non-partisan folks will emerge who'd like to run for Board of Supervisors, Commissioner of the Revenue, Commonwealth's Attorney, Treasurer, or Clerk....just to name a few. Folks who do not work for a faction (aka the Russell Dems) and who work FOR THE PEOPLE OF RUSSELL COUNTY - PERIOD!

you are correct about the corruption in the dem. party of russell co. the head of the party bullies everyone to doing what he wants. that is what he did to the treas. office worker, who has worked their over 25 yrs. she wanted the nomination for treas. so she could retire with full benifits, but he got everyone to give it to one of his "yes men" . he could not tell this woman what to do. the comm. of rev. had a hand in it as well.

It comes as no shock. Would this woman be willing to run independently? If she has worked in the office for 25 years, she no doubt has the experience & knowledge to manage the complexities of the position. If I'm not mistaken, Wampler (currently on the Board of Supervisors is running). What are his qualifications, education, and background? If anyone could share this information, it would be helpful to voters in determining QAULIFICATIONS as opposed to popularity.

In running campaigns these days, especially at a local level, money (which the dems headed by Banner have) is not necessary to wage a successful campaign. The internet is a powerful tool - and can be used to pull younger voters who are not under the influence of this older group of Democrats in Russell - into the polls. All of the social networking sites (MySpace, Twitter, Facebook) can be actively incorporated to reach these voters (by zip and region) and enable candidates to get directly to the voters - without the expense. In addition, old fashioned dooor-to-door campaigning and speaking to local civic groups, churches and using the Russell County Fair as a platform are all ways we can help candidates compete with the "Goon Squad". In addition, if we can rally some qualified folks who are genuinely called to serve the public interest into a united front as a non-partisan group of candidates who call the Russell Democrats on the carpet for their coercive behaviors - there is a great chance of upsetting their stronghold. For too long, I've heard numerous stories of the "Goon Squad" hefting their weight around to suit them. And I've witnessed once unspoiled politicians pulled into to their game, corrupted and become one of "them" all in the name of power, coersion and greed.

There is power in NUMBERS and its time to encourage TAX PAYERS to stand up for themselves and expose these neanderthals for what they are!!!

It's time that little "syndicate of sound" was silenced. Might happen sooner than we think.

Elections will be interesting. Some good candidates supported (unfortunately) by some not-so-good backers. That place needs a good fall "cleaning," including addressing the serious drug problem.

I just know that the politics in Russell County has not been right in years. The fact that there is limited if any economic growth in the last 10 years is ridiculous. I think it is time that the canidates get out of the pants pockets of some in the county and get a backbone for what the people in the county really need and that is a voice not someone to just be a puppet on a string

Russell County politics makes me sick..more than once different offices in russell county have fell pray to the stupidity of the politicians...they don't care about what happens to the people of the county ...they are more concerned with keeping all their secrets and lies at bay by 'scratching a few backs'.....they act as though their political party is a religion and their setting at the foot of God.... makes me want to throw up.

I hear they pay for votes with liquor or such to the poor for their Dem vote. Never seen it, but hear it happens. Wouldn't surprise me though!

"Goons" may soon be in for a little surprise. All three candidates have the backbone to stand up to them. Let's hope they don't lose their principles in the process.

Harvey.....yes it does sound familiar, and if the feds walked into this county to check it out, alot of people would have to change their underwear! They would surely crap themselves at the tought of stuff truly being exposed, if it is really happening.

Feds....interestingly enough, the FBI has a special task force that investigates and cracks down on, specifically, local/rural political corruption. Here's the link:

And here is what I suggest: If there are any in Russell who've been coerced into keeping quite by the Russell County Dmeocratic Party, if there are those who've been sickeded by information they have - but have been manipulated into feeling powerless - contact the Public Corruption office online and begin making your reports. The FBI will need leads and firm information to begin background reports.

All it takes is a seed planted in a timely fashion...and that time is now. Best of luck! We're keeping an "Eye on Russell" and will continue to do so for the betterment of the Russell constituents!

Does the county ever publish a county budget? I hear that agencies are just told what their budget is, but not in writing?? Now why would that be so? I thought budgets were public record?

Also i hear there are going to be a couple of top county jobs created, but are already hand picked to be filled....1 by a politician's son. Let's wait and see.

i've heard that also...kinda makes you wonder if any of these people can get a job on their own since 'someone' is always making new jobs for certain people...just more back scratchin going on...wonder what else they have to do when they get those jobs?

I hear a middle school teacher is in trouble over a student. Anyone else hear this?
Truth or next cover-up?

Just checked out Dollie Compton's site. She's willing to publish the budget. It's a shame WE don't know where our tax dollars are going to. The "Banner party machine" has controlled this county for too long. I'm sick of it!
