I invested in an X-10 (x10.com ) remote control light system. I can turn lights on and off all over my house from a remote keypad(s). I hit the hall and livingroom buttons first, before I do anything else on the rare occasions that I think I have a prowler. That way, I immediately know - visually - who is walking around.
