Developer denies fraud; state says homebuyers lost $24M in depo...

It's sad to see this problem occurring year after year. In a Country that promotes the Image of the "American Dream", the reality is that it remains a Nightmare for many. The American consumer has little or no protection in the pursuit of the purchase of a Home, and yet No elected Leaders wish to change that. You as a consumer have more rights when purchasing a Toaster then you do in the purchase of a Home. The Building Industry continues to Lobby hard, at all levels of Government, so as to release them of the responsibilty they should bear. 10's of Thousands of average, hard-working Americans must bear the financial destruction these "Low-lifes" impose on them through their deceptive practices, with little re-course for recovery, and yet Congress sits , watches, and does nothing......and the "American Dream" remains unreachable for many.

Once again, greed runs amok. The principals of this company should be held accountable for the financial losses that they invested on the prospective homeowners. However, the article states that someone paid $180,000 as deposits for SIX homes. What did that person plan to do? Rent them to tourists at extortionate rates so as to turn a quick buck? C'mon now, six houses? Looks like there was more than enough greed to go around in this story.

They are out because our judicial system is broke. We citizens our at the mercy of a corrupt goverment at every level who do nothing but let things like this happen time and time again. Remember Enron and some of the others who left peoples lives in shambles. The goverment got their pound of flesh but what about the person who lost their money? Nothing is about us,nothing. Unfortunatly Bill florida relies on the tourists for its main source of income generation and jobs for the residents. And the attitude of they get what they deserse only highlights the notion that you cannot trust anything or anyone in florida.

With the American economy in nose dive can Florida really afford its growing reputation as the rip off state. No investors, no tourists, no jobs.

Sue is absolutely right. We depend so much on tourist dollars, yet we treat them like crap. The purpose of these homes was to be vacation homes, either for the owners or to be rented out by the owners on a weekly basis. This guy is a slimeball, but it isn't anything new in Florida. Look at the people who actually live here and put money into it, the state could care even less about them than they do about the part-timers. It is sad and disheartening, but it is the way it is in Florida and most of the country. Business rules, that is just how it works, sad but true.

Corrupt government at every level??? The investigation was properly done and they were arrested for the charges. If this government corruption at every level existed as you claim, there would never have been an investigation or arrest.

Do not invest in a home that is planning to be built in Florida. It may never happen. Much safer and cost effective to buy a good existing home. Their are a ton on the market.

White collar crime seems to be legal with little or no punishment. A man robs a store of $12 dollars or a pack of cigeretes and gets life or shot and these theifs steal millions and only get a slap on the wrist. The law is a joke!!!!!! These theifs should be put away for life.

If FDLE investigates housing and mortgage fraud in the Orlando area. Why is the Brevard County State Attorney so shy about investigating Land Developer fraud and Real Estate scams on the "Space Coast"...right under the nose of the indifferent editors at the Florida Today Newspaper.....
