Ohio Board of Nursing has standardized punishments for a broad range of "injustices". To have nurses on permanent restrictions without material evidence or facts based on criminal charges, malpractice or harm to patient. OBN has "we said you did it" or "I said that is what you said" attitude. I want to name names of these OBN RN(s)being crude, Lisa Ferguson and Amy Sala. It is time for OBN to get a taste of what accountability and punitive measures means with permanent restrictions on "she said they said" kinds of complaints and none of it is the truth.

REally?? Let those who are without sins be allowed to throw the first stone. I doubt that is you. REally shouldn't judge when you have no idea. Do our mistakes make us bad people or bad nurses....NO! Our mistakes are out there for everyone to see and judge.

Dear Suki, You are so right!!! I am trying to put together a collection of nurses stories of their own treatment by the BON for preparation to send to the national ACLU. I've been told and also see the proof that this is a national issue, across all BONs. We need to stand up for ourselves as nurses. It's definitely true that we are truly being bullied by our own profession. And in all my research I have learned that the BON is under administrative law, which is capable of acting as judicial, jury, and executer in any given situation. They are a Quasi Governmental Agency and are protected under the law. They are entirely funded on their own, meaning any licensing dues or fines and fees is how they make their salaries. So they have great incentives to fry the nurse and keep the money coming in to the agency. If you would like to join in my mission to get something changed in the laws and rules, please email me at lynnT6904@gmail.com. ANY NURSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO JOIN US, PLEASE DON'T HESITATE. EMAIL YOUR STORY OF YOUR TREATMENT BY YOUR BON TO LYNNT6904@gmail.com. PLEASE INCLUDE WHICH STATE BON YOU ARE REFERRING TO.

Lynn, that is awesome. I hope you are getting your message out to other forums or message boards where nurses can find this? I am meeting so many nurses that are so unaware of the treatment of the BON. Then when something happens they are totally helpless and in no state of mind to work this mess out.

Doesn't it make you wonder, why on earth has nursing always been the bearer of abuse? Through the years nursing has taken so much crap from so many other groups. It needs to come out into the open and now end. When the BON is doing it and having the legal rights to do it in such a damaging manner, we have to do something. This needs to reach as high as we can take it. If not for us but for the next generation of nurses. We have to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

The Ohio BON robbed me of my career even after spending $3500 on an attorney, which the board originally said no no you don't need to get an attorney involved this is minor,$500 in fines, and a few hundred on required classes and background checks to get my license back. I was a fairly new RN and began working for a home care company. The director would have me turn my paper work into her and then she would come back to me and would say this needs dated for this date and so on. I was young and stupid. Well after I turned them in for Medicare/ Medicare fraud I ended up getting hurt and was then fired. A few weeks later I get a letter from the BON stating that I falsified documentation on several occasions while working for this agency. I was furious and when the investigator called he I specifically asked if I needed to get an attorney he said and I quote, "oh no this is just a standard inquiry it is a minor allegation we have to investigate every complaint." so like the young idiot I was I believed him and answered his questions and told him exactly what happened. Well I heard nothing for almost 2 years and then bam I get the notice of opportunity for hearing. Well I freaked out and got on line and the next day an attorney contacted me and we talked. Well close to $5000 later I under went a 9 month suspension, which was extended because I don't have the money to finish their requirements for reinstatement, had to pay a fine, do classes, resubmit my background check, and apply for reinstatement. After all that is done I have to be on probation for a year and a half on top of having permanent practice restrictions.
I have never been convicted of a crime, I've never used or sold drugs, I certainly did not defraud anybody or have any financial gain, I was not negligent with my care no one was injured or had any issues with my care, and I did not kill anyone. For goodness sake Casey Anthony got off easier than I did. To top things off my goal in nursing was to specialize in ER/SANE nursing and now I am finding out I can't do that because it requires a license that is free and clear of restrictions. WHAT all because dates were wrong dates I was told I had to put on the paper.
It is unjust and wrong, don't they have actual incompetent nurses they can harass and lie too. I agree BON is evil and drunk with power. My question is who polices them, how does one bring charges against the BON who investigates them.
If you have any helpful hints for me please email me at fozzydas@yahoo.com

How long does it take for the BON in NJ to tell you that you are being investigated.Made a med mistake approx 18 months ago and have heard nothing. I am really scared.Pt fine and informed. I caught it immediately. He was informed by me and was understanding. I took full responsibility with no excuses. He felt more sorry for me then he worried about himself. I wrote it up, I was an agency RN and the hospital continued to use me (till they no longer needed agency nurse) for almost another year. Was this automatically sent to the BON? Would I be informed about an investigation. I had to take 6 months off for family matters but have looked for agency per diem and contract work and have been unable to find anything which is really unusual for me.

Can a Disciplinary Action by the Board of Nursing be Appealed in NJ? Could anyone help me with information on this? Is there a Statute governing Appeals? Thank you!

It takes a long time for the NJ BON to do anything. If you continued to have a good repoire with that facility, then why don't you ask them if it was reported to the BON or ask your Agency to find out.

I am a missouri nurse and worried. I have been a nurse since 1997, no tickets, no accidents, no drug problems. But now I am in a pickle. I was working a facility where the nurses and the doctors were very close. We were allowed to call in mdication for each other and the docs didn't care. Well I was having some major back issues and took it upon myself to call in my own scrpit vicodin. My pcp ordered it for me before so I thought it wouldn't have been a problem. Well I got caught, was on 2week paid suspension from my job, then let go. I have not taken any narcotics since that time. But now I have a telephone investigation set up by the board of nursing, and I don't know what to expect. The docs at the unit did not press charges, I was not arrested. I was simply let go and reported to the board. This was a stupid thing I did and I have learned my lesson well. What should I do or expect?

SOS please please please do not trust anyone from the board, do not talk to the investigator or anyone else without consulting an attorney. Trust me the board will lie to you and tell you you don't need a lawyer and say all kind of things to get you to incriminate yourself. Don't let that happen, I tried to go it alone at first and regret it. Find an attorney that specializes in nursing board litigation in your state and do nothing without consulting them first.

Does the NJ BON inform you of an investigation taking place or are you not informed until it is complete? Is there a chance they would inform others of an investigation and not inform you?

My manager recently approached me at work and said that a patients family member filed a complaint against the hospital for poor care. I happened to be the nurse for this patient and the family member is claiming all sorts of false things nothing like stealing drugs just like it took me 3 hours to come into the room etc all of which is false seeing the patient wasnt even there that long among other things like having to ask for a blanket 3 times and so forth. Well my manager said that the family member wrote a letter to the state board and that the state is investigTing it and that the state might contact me!! I'm freaking out seeing how I did nothing wrong really And the patient had no bad outcomes and was cared for properly. Any advice as tO what to say if the board does contact me?? Can you really lose your nursing license over something like this???

Hi KaraRN
Yes u can lose your license for less than that talking from experience I lost mine in Arizona because a patient family member accused me of calling him a liar. Never even done anything in my life, never smoke a cigarette let alone drugs. never have anything except a speeding ticket.Today I am jobless and live off my husband salary.
Good luck in your new battle with the board of slavery. U can email at nalufrank@yahoo.com if u want to know more.

Every nurse here needs to Google the case regarding Arizona RN Amanda Trujillo. I don't have time to post more this am. But everyone needs to read up on the case. You will be outraged. But you need to see how powerful the various Boards of Nursing can be. Also how deceitful our very employers have become AGAINST NURSES.

I was reported to the board by my disgruntled former husband...didin't really read the whole contract, all I saw was if I didn't succomb to VRP my license would go to legal authorities. However, being out of work I cannot afford therapist fee and group fee. So now I am appealing. I did not do anything wrong, only the words of my ex. I need help...any suggiestions!??
