You know I buy that except for one thing. Oh i have no problem with teachers unwinding, a little cocktail or lite up a fat doobie, play naked hide and seek or sleep with prince valuum but we got some real dope heads out there and unfortunalty the pot head drunks will have to be subjected to drug testing in order to get the real drug addicts.

I agree, its the meth heads that are outta control. I know its worse with the teachers that teach the retarted kids. They should leave the pot heads alone though and go after the dope heads.

The only time testing is justified is when a teacher has given some indication that they are impaired at work.

Would you prefer to have it done before or after one of the children get hurt?

I think all teachers and child-care workers in general.. school board.. etc should be drug tested monthly.

New teachers not all jumping on the bandwagon begging to be your kids teachers. Most of us who are here are working hard to make a difference despite the situation. Be appreciative.
I also went to high school here recently and yes over HALF of the teachers did/do drugs...not just in the high school...

first learn to spell "retarded" before you call one that. I thought that was a very inappropriate statement. If you have no prescription for them, DRUGS are DRUGS.

what"ever". You speak and associate with people on drugs, daily, and don't even know. I am sure you are in constant contact, and even call some people friend, who are on drugs. A very large portion of american citizens are addicted (regardless of them being prescribed or not). I know many many people right here in cville who are "hi" most of the time. Weed, xan's, alcohol. They are everywhere. Not much of a chance to stop the drug problem here or anywhere really. It's just part of our society. There are so many of you who choolse NOT to see things. My point is really that, They need to get the meth heads under control. They are bad, really bad and dangerous. There are always gonna be pot heads who cause absolutley no problems but the meth heads are really scary to me.

I am a teacher. Bring the drug tests on!! I do not know a teacher that I work with that would be scared to take one. I think teachers should be drug tested, I am a mother too! I am tired of teachers being called useless and morally irresponsible. Some probably are but most are not. I might have a glass of wine (on a weekend) 5 times a year. That is nobody's business. Some of you say that "Teacher's get paid good - and they are paid in the top 20% in the state". That is true (the 20% part). The district has to do that because no one will move here and teach for low pay. I am happy with my pay but what some of you do not understand is I have to provide the pencils, paper, and snacks etc. It adds up. I have had only two parents bring supplies in for their kids...not one to show up for parent teacher conferences...and it is pitiful. I love my students - and I mean that. They are precious and they cannot help that their parents are not supportive. That is why I do it and not gripe. So please, be careful when you judge teachers. It is a hard job. It is heartbreaking at times and if we want a glass of wine in the privacy of our homes or anywhere (except the school) it is our business.

I honestly beleive that the vast majority of our teachers are good and decent. You appear to be in the majority, however, it is those very few that will always put teachers in a "bad light". I can say for myself, whenever teachers are being called "immoral" or "useless", it is not those teachers like yourself they are referring to. It, again, is referring to those that reflect negatively on all teachers. Keep up the good work.

If the school is the biggest employer in the county, with say 300. Even 5% of the teachers would be 15, that is 15 too many. Another 20% on prescription drugs that is too many also.

I can understand unwind with a drink or two. But it is my understanding that drugs are illegal whether working or not. So they should be arrested for it, or be made an informant.

I don't understand why some of you say they should be able to smoke pot or anything. It is illegal and they shouldn't do it. I know at my job if I have been doing drugs and they pop a drug test on me then I would get fired. Teachers shouldn't be any different.

Teachers are given a special position of authority over other people's children. They should be held to a higher standard.. not a lower standard.

I think any teaching staff should be tested and a background check done on them. With todays crazy society you never can be to carefull. And instead of testing once when they are hired they should be tested yearly and have random drug test done furing the school year. But I bet the education unions would not go foy it. It should be done for the safty of the children.
We do have extensive background checks before we are hired. As for drug test, what ever floats your boat. I have never done drugs, not once. Also, teachers are one of the biggest gossiping, in your business, and watching each other like a hawk group of people I have ever worked with. If you sneeze, somebody will ask you if your getting sick and need a sub. If any teacher is ever out of line, they all know about it immediately. It is not a glamarous job and we have to go to professional development, meetings, and continuing education courses every Summer. THE PAY IS CRAPPY, TOO!!! I have seven years of education and I make $16,000 a year. Stick your drug test where the sun don't shine. I can't afford drugs, hahaha.

You must be the lowest paid teacher in the nation.

Most who have 7 years can get on at a university.

Are you teaching potty training or what?

It took you seven years to get an associate's at the school that Sally Struthers talked about?

You get what you pay for.
