I think that the reality of this mess is this....the Board is in control and this mess rests at their doorstep. The citizens are not guilty of this, not the teachers or the students. Did anyone read Medley's resignation in the paper? The attorney is not in control, neither is Lewis. The Board is calling the shots so if the train has run off the track, then they are accountable. In the meetings I have attended it is rare that they can reach an agreement between themselves. Some of them need to make a greater effort to work together. When election comes we need people who will work TOGETHER to take care of our schools. I think Shoulders made a great comment at the last meeting when she said that they needed to work toward what was best for the kids....that sounded great, the rest of it needs to stay out of the decision making and get the schools back on track. I agree with the post about missing the ability to elect this position, if that was the case this entire thread and problem would not happening.

I think it is hilarious that D. F. is being exposed. I remember being in school when he was a teacher and it was not uncommon for him to throw the most ridiculous temper tantrums in the classroom in front of students. At the time, I didn't realize how absurd he acted, but as an adult, I look back on it in disbelief. One day, a classmate of O.F-B.(his daughter) made a negative comment toward her, and D.F. took him into an empty classroom and screamed at him (horrible things), kicked at the desk the student was sitting in several times, and told him he would "never start another football game." This was a junior high kid! Of course, D.F. was the football Coach at that, and stayed true to his word by not allowing the student (previously a starter on the team) to start and barely played him at all. He also made a point to make the poor kid's life miserable from that point on. Any time someone had any issues with his daughter, he would revert to this child-like behavior. I saw this time after time during my tenure at S.C.H.S. What kind of professional adult behaves this way? And an educator to boot? I don't live in Carthage anymore, but I regularly check in with this hilarious forum for nothing more than seeing what in the world is going to be said next. A guilty pleasure, for sure. When I saw the posts in this discussion, it occurred to me that even though Topix is a ton of hurtful, trash talk that is useless and annoying, it also provides an avenue of transparency for a town that is full of hypocrites and frauds. Keep it coming, Smith County!!!
WELL SAID!!! It's been a long time coming.

OH BOY! You are way off. To include "all kids" in this comment shows ignorance on your part. This kind of statement is so out of place in this forum. Besides, these kinds of issues start in the home, not in the schools. Let's get back on topic.

I agree that there is a problem with the Board, but it appears to be with just certain members. There seems to be some bullies on the Board who are making the entire board look bad. I don't think I need to list any names. They have already been referred to many times throughout this forum.

I agree and although I have used the phrase "Board" I need to apologize to any members that might be reading these posts. I do NOT feel that all of the members are, as I would put it, falling short of the obligations they have to the citizens and the system. But, at the same time I do not think I am alone in my personal belief that a few are damaging the board and school system in general based on their actions and attitudes. At the same time, there are some that I am proud we have and that I believe are trying their best to do the right thing without personal vendettas. None of us will always agree on issues in this county, but we can still act with integrity, or as my Mama says," Act like somebody". Either way and if you agree or not, I still say that this is the most disruptive and unproductive board (some of them) that I can recall in my lifetime, and Ive been here a long time, lol. When Metro went was in the media all the time with their board and director issues I thought it was silly and relieved that we did not have that problem. Now here we are. I live here and love this place, but many times we(Smith County) are our own worst enemies. One would think that on issues like this we could put aside personal thoughts and differences long enough to make a decision that is in the best interest of our children and whatever it takes to get this resolved and moving forward. But on this forum everyone has a right to their opinion and I respect that, this just represents mine.

Perfect example she stated over and over we need to put our Personnel agendas aside and do what's best for he children and she never voteed for one thing did she? And what BS her whole BOE career has been a personnel vendetta! I'm sure dick will give her some directions on what to do next!

I have used a vast amount of my only time off for more than 4 days in a row to express my thoughts, opinions, & tried to be as informative as possible about the urgency /importance / value concerning the position of director of schools for Smith Co. I tried, without success, to ignore absurd, idiotic, ignorant statements. Yes, stupidity is abundant, loud, & should be dismissed and ignored. but when simple facts, work ethics, loyalty, honesty, have failed to be first and foremost with decision makers, then all bets are off. Not that it matters, and shouldnt, but no more posts until results of boe meeting tomo nite, 5 pm. Smith Co Boe. Many of you asked for large numbers of individuals with a vested interest to show up and show your support tuesday nite. Second chance, Thursday at 5. See you there. discussion to take place afterwards.

Although I don't have kids in the schools now I use to. I had dealings with Lewis and Medley..Taken as a whole Mark was the best of all of them. Lewis was I do as I want attitude, and Mark was do as it is right attitude. The whole county commissioners starting with the County Mayor and County Attorney they all need to let the people vote on this matter and let this decision of the people be final instead of them doing all the doings. I wouldn't doubt that after the UCDD of Cookeville proceeds with their investigation that our county mayor and attorney are involved in this mess there..Phil Williams did a great job on this and maybe he should be called into this situation as well.

County commission and County Mayor have absolutely NO say whatsoever in whether or not we get to "VOTE on this matter". I'm pretty sure that right was taken away from voters by a lot higher authority than at county level!

Also this topic has NOTHING to do with county commission, county mayor, county attorney or UCDD...go to another thread to shed your wisdom about them.
THANKS

ALSO....good luck to the Smith County SCHOOL BOARD this evening on whatever decision you make...I'm pretty sure you can't make EVERYONE happy.

But please try to remember for who (our children) and what (smith county schools) you are making your decisions...not for personal agendas or personal gain.

Thank you

I would like to think if our County Mayor and Attorney knew what was going on with the UCDD and how corupt it got i think it would shed a light on what is going on here in our county. This thread has all to do with the county and last i checked Nesbit was county mayor and Bellar was the attorney

Frustrated fromn tonites meeting. Poor showing as far as numbers are concerned. Manning in attendance, and impressive show in my opinion. Only two things determined. final vote for june 15th, law states 15 day notice required for interum position or to re appoint Lewis. Barrick barked as usual, used the term technicality when , as Mr collins pointed out, means rules/ laws, to try to push the 3rd option of opening applications, etc. Did not fly. Ialmost thought for a blink of an eye that shoulders may have found a human somewhere within on tuesday nite. well seated nest to #1 ass hole barrick, and across from # idiot Fulton She spoke, at length, but didnt say anything of real value or importance. One refeshing turn, Fulton was silent. his oly obvious moves were to his new bestie, joe taylor. they winked, and taylor took notes, while fulton read it all over his shoulder. So - collins, hammond, maynard, manning bravo for thinking about the actual welfare of this school system, Barrick - shut the hell up. Shoulders - do you have a soul or not, Taylor - get better friends. Dick - yes you are. Hopefully a better showing on june 15. Now seems we are in limbo again because of a few members on this boe that couldnt care less about teachers, staff, or our CHILDREN.

Well actually its not in limbo, its only until the 15th that when it becomes official that lewis is back in as director. the only reason they didnt vote for him last night was the 15 day rule. To me what is funny, for lack of a better term, is the person who didnt make the final 3, is now going to be in the directors chair. Not for lewis, not against lewis. It has been one more show.

As stated in my earlier post...go to another thread to spread your wisdom about UCDD. THis thread has nothing to do with UCDD!! The County Mayor DOES NOT (officially) have any say in school board proceedings.....so PLEASE SHUT UP!

I'm sure I've read PLENTY of topics on here about M. Nesbitt and others about the UCDD...go find one!

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Leo

This is a great day for fixing things that have gone wrong. If there have been ructions in your relationship with a certain person this is when you can sort things out and get them back on track. If an appliance or gadget is going on the blink, this is your cue to either get it mended or chuck it out and replace it. You may also find time to tidy up your immediate surroundings or take all those bottles and papers to your nearest recycling center. How virtuous you'll feel when it's all done!
