He is a Part Time, Wanna Be Police Officer that has paid his and his families way into the Profession and does not treat it as a Profession. On the outside they appear as they are doing it barely but from the inside well lets just say there has been some stuff which has taken place such as :
Commissioners under charges allowed to hold their own WARRANTS.
Favoritism in dealing with the inmates in booking practices and allowing certain members as work crew and trusty's.
Heaven forbid we pay the Officers what is owed them by a Law Suit but rather put non certified, untrained officers in there.
Make those Officers take a second job instead of paying them correctly.
Creating a position out of thin air because it suits shim.
Allow a family member to work over 40 hours on the weekend as a second job.
Make sure the Sheriff himself has all the toys possible to play with along with another wanna be public official (he really needs to be looked at too)and not have any money left to issue ammo to the Officers.

You said the Commissioners effect the salaries well my homework said and I believe it was the Carthage Currier that printed it, said the Sheriff, Ronnie Langford will not uphold, honor or follow the findings and ruling of the Law suit which favored a pay increase for the Deputies. Even though you lied here and went to using name calling I will explain the family thing.
That was what every commissioner and I believe the Sheriff stated in the election was wrong with the past administration. SO WHAT IS IT ? It is only right when you do it not the other?
I can understand trust but nepotism is nepotism no matter how you slice it. If you cannot trust those around you well there are alternatives but to just give all to your family and take away from those who have given years of service , yes YEARS OF SERVICE to the county is just wrong, very wrong. I am certain your only hearing what you want to hear so why don't you do your homework and learn something cause your running behind and there ain't gonna be no grading curve on this one either.

Hey Booooo, let me make sure I understand what your saying. Basically this information has gotten to them. They have heard it. If this is the case there is no reason for me go down there as you say because they have now heard this and they will act on it or is it more likely that I would be harassed by the Sheriff and his family for the remainder of their term of service?
That one brother is known to pull cars over and try to push his badge around in other jurisdictions so you don’t think they would give a body a hard time do you?

Besides that can you specifically clear up what accusations, falsehoods and twist of the truth are you referring to?

Are you deny there was a law suit by the previous administration that would have given the Deputies a raise?
Are you deny that the Sheriff refused to follow the judgment of that law suit which would have given the Deputies a raise?
Are you deny that the there is any nepotism in the Sheriff’s Department?
Are you deny the one brother works the weekends and that this is a second job for him and that he is know to put in over 40 hours during that time?
Are you deny that recently a position was created and filed for the heck of it?
Are you deny that a person under charges was allowed to carry their own warrants around?
Are you deny that when the Deputies were sent to the range for firearms training they had to buy their own ammunition?

Things........ OVERHEARD, exactly. I do not need to be more specific. A lot of the Deputies have second jobs, so what. The more of them we have the better. Yes we could use more. Smith Co. is a large county to cover. As far as the law suit, tell the how story....if you don't know the whole story, then well, you are telling falsehoods. Police work is a profession and if the Deputy needs a second job to make a living then he or she is most likely coming to one job if not both tired and cranky and just wanting to get it out of the way.
That's real good. Sure get more people on the road that aren't certified and oh are they not supposed to be supervised ?
Sure we need more Deputies but are you saying we need quantity not quality?
I was hoping you would enlighten us to the whole story if there was more to it but you will not because the whole story is the Sheriff refused to follow the judgment of that law suit which would have given the Deputies a raise. Reality Check i just wondering how you were able to obtain all these allegations and also wondering if you had any hard evidence to back any of these "claims" up because it seems like you have a personal vandeta against the sheriff and the department.

j_ross_17, get a copy of the Carthage Currier and you can read all about the Law Suit and the Sheriff not going with the ruling / decision of the court to give the Officers a salary increase.
I do not have a personal vendetta as I have nothing to gain and you on the other hand are doing what exactly? If you have read all of the blog's you would have seen where the Currier was mentioned before.
As for the nepotism just see who is employed there.
As for the recent hires just get a roster of employees and their start dates.

Contrary to what our neighbor to the north have gone through with their departments,(i.e. Jackson County) and to our south, with Sheriff Heatley in Williamson County. You can throw around all your rumors and slander you want, however, if any corruption has accrued during the past three years; don’t you think that the TBI would have made an inquiry? Let Mr. Lankford do his job that he was elected to do and find something better that do than throw around your libel.

Well, I have caught the Sheriff in several lies. He will tell you one thing and me another. He is unprofessional along with most of his staff. The S.O. lacks proper training. You have Deputied that won't take calls or put them off on another shift. Jailers that can't/won't properly book inmates in. They wait till the next shift comes in or get someone esle to do it for them. The mangement knows of these down falls and fails to correct them. This is a direct reflection back on the mangement. It is bad when adjoinng County S.O.'s are talking about how unprofessional they are and appear. However, most of the Law Enforcement Agencies in Smith County lack proper training. The County, City and Town Fathers ought to be ashamed of the budgeting they give these agencies. The salaries, equipment, training are by far sub-standard.
If you don't believe me just listen to their radio traffic on a scanner. Then listen to a professional agency such as: Mt Juliet PD, Lebanon PD or THP. It is all buisness on there freq.s, no horse play as on the S.O. freq. The S.O. needs good leadership and someone to set the standard and hold everyone else to it. Accountability, respondsibilty and interigity without these you only will continue to fail. I could go on and on....but 2010 will tell.

I was just wondering how you know he does all of this? How do you know that the S.O. does nor "properly" book inmates in and etc. Please indulge us "county citizen." And how exactly are they "un-professional" The people down at the S.O. are some of the most professional people you will ever meet and care deeply about the well-being and security of Smith County. If not "being professional" on the radio is the best thing you can come up with that the Lankford Admin has not did well I would say that their not doing that bad of a job.
