SWAT team called to aid Smith County

What bothers me is that Smith County doesn't have their own fully trained Special Ops/ SWAT team. They are on the Interstate route! We're "rural". Something is terribly wrong with that!
Someone could have orchestrated an event such as what happened in Carthage to detract from a major occurrence right here.
What horror that would be.

Hey we at Smith County would like to thank Macon Co for the mutal aid that was given on sunday. It is good to know that when help is needed it can come from counties that border our county. As for the reason for Director Slack being in the Sheriff Dept is most Sheriff Departments have medic in there department They also have another medic in the deparment. I am one of the officers that responded to that scene on Sunday we think it is nice to have medics on the department that can treat anyone that becomes hurt while the issue is going on. But back to the mutal aid of your county I know that when the storms came to macon county last year Smith Co Sheriff dept,Smith County EMS and Smith County Rescue were some of the first called by Macon Co EMS director to aid in helping your county. I dont think there was ever anything wrote about Macon County not being able to handle things when that happen. But it is good to know that in a time of need the peolpe that can help get the job done and dont think about a county line stoping help but I guess you have to be in emergency services to know that one I am sure if you have any ideas on how to help the department they will be glad to listen to you. The thing that bothers me is people that run their mouths about things they no nothing about. The reason they get on here an post negative comments about other people is because they are to scared to voice their opinion to the law enforcement they are trying to bash. I think it is a lot of BS that people claim that Smith County Deputies were scared when they brought the man in alive instead of dead. They care more about human life and the safty of fellow law enforcement than trying to be 10ft tall and above the law. So the next time you think about making a negative comment about any law enforcement you need to have some guts and say it to them directly. Unless you are willing to do that, learn how to keep your comments to yourself.

I'm agreeing with the fact that most people to open their mouth first that have "a lot" to say are really the ones that know nothing at all. For anyone "hearing" the situation it isn't the same as being there. I happen to know the story considering my husband was one of the officers involved. There indeed was shots fired (OBVIOUSLY NOT FOR TWO HOURS: GENIUS) and other neighbors in the vacinty can verify the facts. Oh and just FYI it started off as a domestic call, just in case you needed something else to add to you story to make it a little bit more legitimate. OH and by the way anytime a gun and a crazy person are involved shouldn't someone be scared and handle it logically? Bravery isn't the absence of fear but overcoming it!

Well if you MR. Concernced Citizen can do a better job, why aren't you applying for a job with the Sherriff's Dept or are you to scarred? It's amazing how much you can voice your opinion when you're not saying who you really are. It's amazing how people in this county can run their mouth, but don't have anything to back it up with.

Well, MR. Concerned Citizen, you seem to "BELIEVE" you know a lot about the Smith County Law Enforcement. From your comments, it appears you must be a "Wanna Be" and just couldn't cut it through training to actually become a police officer. Our officers are Post Certified, or did you fail to discover that information before you started spouting your nonsense? Our officers risk their lives to protect US and deserve our appreciation for the job they do every day. I notice your entire last comment was in caps. Can't you get anyone to listen to you unless you are shouting? Hmmmm, maybe you should think about how to deal with your anger issues instead of attacking our officers for lack of anything better to do!

There is no standard training and there are many issues within this Dept. SO be grateful there is NO SWAT.
There is no Swat , there is no policy on anything as best as I heard, there is no anything so don't even go there and besides there isn't any money to pay the guys and gals a decent wage or get them any real equipment but by God we can get some cars hehehe.

The guys did everything they could with the training and experience they have. Rather proud that no one especially the good guys got hurt and the victims were saved. The outcome should be the focus and it is important to understand that they called in people with some experience and training. What else can a citizen want. They don;t pay these guys enough and there is no support. Heck the County is trying to cut the budget more. They do the bast they can with what they are given!!!!!

Because there is no training or supervision and yes they are scared because there is no policy in place and because of that the lack of training they are on their own. You really think these guys and gals receive any confidence and support form the politicians. They are on their own. Both of you need a reality check.
Not all of the Officers are Post certified and that is just basic training anyway.
Being POST certified means that you have attended and passed a minimum requirement course and are to return to your Department for additional training. That sure don't happen here and as stated not everyone is POST Certified.
There is no training once out of the Academy so you basically have bunch of rookies running around with out leadership , oh yeah stripes don't mean anything other than you will also be named in the lawsuit.

So basically these Guys and Gals are doing the best they can with what support and training they receive. You want that to change or improve well than get involved and help them and quit the Monday morning quarter backing and get out from in front of the TV and go out to see what they need and help get it for them. This is a profession that receives no thanks and acclaim but in our case no money or support either.

Reality check & Concerned Citizen - I'm taking up for the officers not bashing them. I know they are doing the best they can with what they have got. That's what I was saying. It's easy to judge somebody until you're actually in their shoes. You damned right they was scarred. I would be terrified to think I would have to take somebody's life.
I know how this county works trust me. And if I could get the hell out of this county I would done be GONE. Mostly because people aint got a freaking clue what they are talking about when they go to running their mouths. This ain't Nashville Metro with a multi million dollar budget every year.
I'll tell you what if you want your property taxes to go up every year I'm sure the county would be more than happy to help support these guys more. So talk to your County Commissioners about a property tax increase. Then don't bitch about it when it happens.

Property tax increase - get serious. They being the Mayor and Commissioners are all about protecting themselves and taking care of them not the public.
If it was about taking care of the Public you Would have a wheel tax that was based on vehicle value not a flat fee.
Also how about closing one High School and making sure where that money is going. And the list goes on, and on.
There are so many private interest groups in this county that it is ridiculous.

SO lets get on them for a change and leave the workers who risk all alone!!!

I find it appauling that the citizens of this county have nothing better to do than to bad mouth our officers. I agree with who ever said you go through the acadamy and put that badge on your chest and see if you can do a better job. The officers of this county are grossly underpaid and under appriciated but they come in everyday and risk their lives to keep OUR community safe!So you sit there and cast judgement as you sit safely in your home and know that you will be judged yourself in time!

Don't bash the officers. Bash higher on the totem pole. These are the people who are in charge. THey run the system and make the rules and decissions. They decide where all tax dollars go. The emergency people are good, most of the police officers have not been corrupted yet by the system. Know the whole story. Learn the whole story. And try to change it. Go to the meeting and really listen to what's going on. And to all in the system or not open your eyes. Don't let the corrupted ones pull the wool over your eyes.

yes carthage is a well untrain officers an u state they are not staff well check out the payroll an when aperson gets that office job they say take care of u family believe me go take a look in each office beleive me it sister brother daddy mama son daughter and we could go on but this will fill ur sack full an 1 more thing i bought a nice home on east 3rd ave now i moving due to the noise neighbors just for starters i had a poodle for 6years till i move here my poodle was house broken to go out but my new neighborhood i get ticket for my dog going out to pee went to court the cost of 162.00 dollars was drop but i was put on 6months probation so that just the start of it so dont u agree it time to move on or go out side and look across the street or down the hill an 1st thing u see is a shade crack open or some one peeping out there garage door well enough said i think u can picture the rest with out a camera haaaaa

What would be the point of Concerned applying for the job, apparently Concerned is not a friend or family member of the Sheriff so I'd say the chances of getting on the force (I use the word force loosely) is pretty much moot.
